All this stuff about Bojan playing on the right?
Every time he's scored for us he's been playing in the centre, he's said he far prefers to be central and he didn't like playing wide at Ajax.
Against Betis when Bojan and Diouf were swapping postions, Bojan didn't once cover Bardsley, not once and he kept drifting into the centre, yet Diouf showed that he's more than happy to cover his full back and has got the discipline to hold his position.
Are we being guilty of trying to shoe horn Bojan into the team somewhere, rather than playing him in his best position?
What happens if we sign Yarmolenko, then it has to become a choice between Diouf and Bardsley to play in the centre, doesn't it?
I hope not.

He's probably scored more premier league goals than all of our forwards put together & he's 30 years of age not 36.

Don't think this will be too far from correct, don;t think it will be as easy as some people think it will be. 2 Counter attacking teams this is also where Villa are at their best and have beaten top 4 sides who have taken the game to them recently ( as have we ) although we are expected to go for the win being at home & it could be our undoing if we arn't careful and our defence doesn't tighten up a bit. 1-1 for me

I can see Bojan and Diouf being pretty fluid up front, I think we're stressing unnecessarily about one of them having to cover the full backs. Arnie showed last season he can put a shift in covering back and Ireland has a good football brain if we start with a midfield of Arnie, Ireland, N'Zonzi, Whelan.

Bego Bardsley Shawcross Wilson Pieters Whelan N'Zonzi Ireland Arnie Diouf Bojan is Huth not ready to go yet? He needs to play his way back in, also going off the later friendlies Wilson has been getting more game time.

Villa have lost their counter attacking and are really flat at the moment. That said it's top flight football so no game is a guarantee.
My team would be:
Bego Bards Shawcross Wilson Pieters
Whelan N'Zonzi Ireland
Arnie Bojan Diouf
I'd have Diouf on the right side as he will track back and support Bardsley more than Bojan will and the same with Arnie on the other side. Let Bojan hover around the front line.
That said i can see him starting Odemwingie on the right, Diouf up front and bring Bojan on with about 30 to go.

Right then, I think Sparky is going to play the following
Begovic
Shawcross Wilson Bardsley Pieters
Whelan N Zonzi
Arnie Ireland Odemwingie
Diouf
Bojan will probably start on the bench. As for the score, I am going to go for 2-0 Stoke, with Ireland and Bojan to score.

Well if we are aiming for top 10 or better these are the type of games it would be nice to win or should win comfortably. Bookies have us finishing 8th and Villa 5th faves to go down. I cant see anything other than victory with a few goals as well.

Begovic
Bardsley Shawcross Wilson Pieters Whelan Nzonzi Bojan Ireland Arnie Diouf
Diouf has to play as the striker and we'll just have to try and stop them counter attacking Bardsley I think.
This is our best team on paper I think though

I'd have to start Bojan through the middle. I'd go with Odemwingie on the right. Diouf from the bench.

Pre season has seen MH try a number of combinations - this is an area of the field where we need some stability when it comes to selection once the season is underway Keeping their defence busy should be the order of the day

Ireland's got a major point to prove, MOTM performance imminent Sidwell spent some time at Villa too, but without the problems encountered by Ireland - I think he will make the bench I agree that Ireland has the opportunity to showcase his skills Not forgetting Crouch and Sorensen who should get their usual warm reception from the Villa fans

It's got "draw" written all over it for me.
2 similar standard line ups, We have home advantage but Villa may get a Roy "up yer bollocks" Keane bounce.
I'm going 1-1.
