I cannot believe that he would pick Muniesa over Pieters.Very worrying. Why? He did very well when he played last season, but it's only a friendly and I think Pieters will still be getting the nod.

All very fine and dandy my money is that those starting line ups may well right but odemwinge and Adam will Be regulars by end of September big goal players for us both of em . Adam has been left behind this season, by a long way, wouldn't be surprised see him gone.

Because I think Pieters is a far better out and out left back.Muniesa is maybe a better footballer but not a better defender. One important factor is that Hughes seems to be going for a more attacking side which in turn means we will need better defenders.Just my view.

Fair enough, I can see where you're coming from, personally I don't think Muniesa is to far behind in how well he defends but there's still time for him to improve, and as I say, I still think Pieters will start initially.

Our result tonight was one of the better ones for Premier League sides. Only Spurs and Burnley did better. link

Looks that way. Still not convinced by Bardsley but hey, will give the boy his fair opportunity to impress then judge. Not a dig but did you see the Betis game? He was very good I thought. The aggression of Wilko but with a lot more ability and adventure. Nice assist for the Pieters goal too.. Looks that way. Still not convinced by Bardsley but hey, will give the boy his fair opportunity to impress then judge. Wow really?! I think Bardsley has looked decent pre-season. Had him down as my man of the match for the Betis game Now now boys keep your knickers on. I was merely stating I'm not totally convinced. No doubt he's looked good in pre-season, but all I can go on is what I've seen in the past and let's be honest, he's not been the most consistent Premiership player. Let's give him a chance though. I really hope he proves me wrong.

Today's substitutes vs Freiburg; Sorensen, Pieters, Huth, Arnautovic, Adam, Walters, Cameron, Sidwell, Teixeira, Crouch. With the addition of a defensive MF that side could challenge for a top half place in the Prem.!
Shows how far Stoke have progressed in 12 months.

From the six pages I can't really tell how we played. Got a text from the game just said we look a bit wank at the back? Anyone up for a summary?

I think Stoke City Player are going to show a highlights package - they showed 13 minutes of the Betis game!

LMH has said that he will ease Bojan in gradually and I think he will be on the bench against Villa. He will start with Arnie,Wingie & Mame with Ireland .Bojan will come on 2nd half and if all goes well he will be starting after about 3 or 4 games. It will be interesting then as Wingie is not certain to be the player making way, it could be Arnie. He was very wasteful at times in the friendlies and his shooting is poor, I love him but sometimes his contribution is minimal.

I agree with this. I think Bojan has started most games in preseason to make sure he kept his fitness levels up. But in the league I'd expect to see us start the first few games with what (for us) is a more typical formation of a big man up front and two pacy players either side of him. Bojan will come on as sub and who he replaces will depend upon how the game is going and who looks to be in need of replacement. Assuming no MFW I expect our front 4 to start against Villa will be: Wingie, Ireland, Arnie ......... Diouf ........

I still think Hughes may throw Bojan in from the off because he's just too damn good to leave out.
It's a great dilemma for him to have and it must be very, very tempting to chuck him in against Villa.

No Bojan seems to me to be a little fragile and the pace and physicality of the prem may be too much for him to start off with & I think LMH is aware of this.We don't want him losing any confidence he is building up from his pre- season. As Lakeland says LMH will start with our familiar set up with Diouf up front and Arnie with Wingie out wide.Bojan will feature 2nd half regardless of the state of the game.

You don't half talk some shit. You've absolutely no evidence to back up what you're saying. I'd be amazed if Bojan didn't start against Villa. What better way to keep his confidence up after scoring 3 in 4 than starting him in the first game.

Much as I'd like to see him starting from the off, it might be a sensible tactic for him to come on around 60 mins and tear the Villa defence a new one.

Spain,Italy & Holland are not as physical & demanding as the Prem.Look at Arnie last season he was way off the pace to start off with & I think the game could pass Bojan by to start off with .I hope I'm wrong & LMH starts him and he starts scoring straight away but I don't want some of our idiots getting on his back if he doesn't play well immediately.

Bojan is not in the least bit fragile. There are plenty of tough defenders in all the leagues he's played in, and he shrugged off a defender to score in one of the recent games. Besides he's training with Huth and Shawcross and Wilco atm, so he's no shrinking violet! He's a tough little cookie I'd say.

Just back from the game and it was a decent run out for Stoke...... A good turn out of Stokies....about 350-400 being honest..... I think mostly everybody missed Dioufs goal due to the fact that some bloke was getting pelted with empty beer glasses at the front of the paddock.....he was a tight arse and collecting em cos you could get a euro back on em. Must have had about 50 euros worth of plastic beekers all stacked up. I was stood at the bar in a LONG queue and missed it as well. Second half was decent enough with Adam dragging a shot inches wide of the left hand upright, Crouchy missing a diving header from literally 5 yards out - straight at the keeper. One yard either side and it would have been 2-1. Diouf skied one as well when put through but a solid display none the less. One thing that pissed me rayte of though was only Adam came over at the end and applauded the fans and gave his top to a little laddie - nice gesture. I dont know if Im reading too much into it but it seemed one of those gestures like "thanks and goodbye' type things. I honestly didnt see any of the other players come over or acknowledge the presence of the fans...miserable bastards Lot of old songs got an airing plus some german lad in our end was just gettin dogs abuse all game but he took it well........"youre just a fat Harry Potter, fat Harry Pooottteerr" All fans in FINE voice and then went to the Freiburg fans bar with Matt and Andy ( ey up fellas if you read this) where this Freiburg fan got a round of 10 beers in without asking us !! "I buy you beers, yes, I buy you 10 beers, good, yes?" Aye if you want son ! Really friendly bunch and nice stadium to boot in really nice surroundings. Lots of decent bars in the old town as well. TOP TRIP !
