Jordan gone - poor shot. Shame - he had a chance to show what he can with the bat this morning and has blown it. You have to think him and Woakes are fighting for one place going forward (we need a bona fide 3rd seamer) and with not much to choose between their bowling (although I think Woakes edges that) it could be their batting that is the deciding factor. To be fair though it was a very good catch

Bit of a careless shot there by Bell , disappointing That makes two poor dismissals so far - from England's perspective. From India's it's been a good morning so far. They've bowled well and got their rewards. Now let's see what Root and Ali can do. Good test for the young guns.

It seems a good pitch , but if these overhead conditions persist ,which seems likely ,it's going to swing throughout the game a lead of around 100 will be very useful

I fancy England will get about 320 here which weather permitting will be enough

Going back to this one ....I'm all in favour of a little " banter" or sledging ...it does no harm and it helps to promote a little spice into the game ....from time immemorial swearing on the cricket field has occurred , particularly where the Australians have been concerned ....but in my opinion it can go over the top ...if those reports of what Anderson called Dohni are correct , then in my opinion he has crossed the line ....they are personal insults that have no place on the Cricket field ...no need for them and they in my. Opinion are far worse than the alleged push on one of the players ...but you would hope that as grown men they could sort it out amicably without resorting to hearings and the like ....cool it lads I'd be more concerned about the lack of imagination if that was what was said but these leaks are so one sided i'd go for them being a desperate attempt to justify their pathetic behaviour in running to teacher. Don't think i'll take any lectures on spirit of cricket from an alleged spot fixer like FFC Dhoni. It doesn't seem like Anderson either he's more a smart Alec wind up merchant rather than threatening to lamp someone.

Good that India were obliterated in the first innings, means that this rain delay is not as important in terms of the game as it could have been, it's all clear for tomorrow according to the BBC.

Oh I agree , it's most definately an attempt to avoid being made to look foolish ( which they all ready have been ) , but there are plenty of things you can say to needle the opposition without getting personal , Jimmy just needs to read up on the subject a little !......and as for the spirit of cricket ,the alleged incident took place off the field , so that does not really apply......agreed that is a bit precious coming from such a shady character as the " overweight one "

Old Trafford They had a similar problem at last weeks 20/20 .....they knew there would be a possibility of rain during this Test , why on earth did they not bring the boundary in about ten yards before the start of the game ? This could well have been avoided , better a slightly shorter boundary than what has happened today

Try and get another 100 quick runs, and have a few hours bowling at India,if we can get 4 or 5 wickets before close of play today, even with rain forecast, there should be enough cricket played on the last two days to get the remaining wickets. There you go, pure and simple, aint it?

Yes a good lead of around 200 would be nice .....I don't see a ball being bowled on Sunday looking at the weather warnings If we keep wickets in hand (which is a big if) to lunch, we should go on the offensive after lunch with a view to declaring mid afternoon with a lead of 250 or so. We need to make inroads into their batting today because of that Sunday forecast.

Well done to the big man - don't we just love a good honest trier! So now to Woakes. Good chance to show what he can do with the bat. Keep going strong boys.

Steady on Pankaj - you can have one, but getting Butler with a slow ball is just not on.
You've just ruined what could have been a great batting hour after lunch.
Anyway - makes things easy for Cook. We won't have to worry about declaring. Broad won't hang around and Woakes has a free licence to go for it. Could be fun for the first half hour of the afternoon session.
Off to walk the dog!

Broad Hope he's fit to bowl ? Getting stitches as we speak, caught him bang on the conk so he shouldn't be concussed but we appear to be continuing to bat for his green light to bowl.
