Diouf and Tex looked good. Didn't really see Bardsley and Sidwell on my stream! Sidwell was non existent. Who was that the ref booked then?

Decent run out Starting 11 so far ... Beggo Bardsley Ryan Huthy Moony Sidders Zonzi SJW Ireland Arnie Diouf Thx for the stream links - Good to be (almost) back A couple of questions for you here mate. You'd replace Whelan with Sidwell straight off, what are your reasons for that? I can't see any reason to drop one of our top performers last season personally. As the season goes on, if Whelan underperforms then by all means but from the previous seasons performances for Stoke City, Whelan shouldn't be dropped for a player like Sidwell. In my opinion. I'm also not understanding starting Walters ahead of Odemwingie either, or even an Assaidi or an unknown new winger. Walters, if he stays, is a sub for league games until someone needs dropping. Just a moment, I'm experiencing massive letter failure ... I'll try again Starting 11 so far ... I probably would replace Wheelo with Sidders though. Give it a few more but I think him and Zonzi might work well; either can get forward. But on that one friendly, that's what I'd pick (can't see us starting it against Villa, though ) EDIT: Beggos a fair point though ... that would be Butland

Jon Tex doesn't look ready yet, a loan out will do him good. He was beaten a few times too easily. I still think Cameron should be the RB starter this year. Walters looks like he has a part to play but I wouldn't go ahead and drop Odem though. Adam was very poor today, Ireland looks like he has the start come the 16th. Muiesa and Arnie linked up well and that should be the starter. Diouf looked busy and was unlucky with his chance. Shea looked decent and a few more run outs like that and we may only need Assaidi to bring in. Granted it was our first friendly and a good start to draw and things can change but right barring any signings we make, my start would be Begovic, Cameron, Shawcross, Wilson, Muniesa, Arnie, N'Zonzi, Whelan, Odem, Ireland, Diouf Pieters is the better defender Muni the better attacker so its 50/50 on that one. everything else is spot on. seen nothing from sidwell or bardsley to suggest they should be starters.

Nah. To be fair I stuck the (wrong) keeper in at the end, was going to just list the ten (No1 isn't a competition, is it - if we are keeping beggo)

Only managed to catch the second half but from what I saw a good work out, my only reservation being the Germans weren't trying very hard and falling over at the slightest chance. I hope the next competition is tougher.
All performances were creditable for a first match but Charlie needs to get a few games under his belt before he starts trying to spray it round like Hoddle or Beckham.
Tex was very comfortable on the ball but a bit off the pace when trying to tackle. Good to see Sidwell getting stuck in; he's obviously a trier like Walters, and great to see Huthy playing again.
Each time I come on here I sound like I run the MH fan club, but once again we have seen today he knows what he is doing by not showing Shea and Ness the door. (Hope I haven't just done a Murray Walker!)

Everyone relax. This is the first friendly of the preseason. It seems we did okay, but in reality, It doesn't mean anything. The doom merchants need to factor in the missing players: Bego, one of the world's best keepers is missing, as is Odemwingie, after a great season last time and a pretty impressive World Cup. Were are also light by one or two signings. We'll be fine by August.

You could also make the arguement for dropping Wilson for Muniesa and starting Pieters. Wilson can make very costly mistakes but it would be a tough ask because on the whole he did well last year

Think Shea and Ness did themselves credit today. If they carry on through pre season like they did today they they'll warrant their squad places.

That's actually as good a first game pre-season performance as I have seen from Stoke I think. Normally our first pre-season game is against non league opposition so I feared the worst when I saw who Hughes planned to give us our first run out against. A gamble in my opinion - but it worked. To get a 1-1 draw against a top 6 Bundesliga side in our first friendly will give the whole squad a lift, I should think.
Full marks for playing two sides in either half, each of which had a "mix" of first teamers and squad players. That meant that neither side had it easy but also that neither were over run.
So far so good.

Shea needs a good run at pre season and I believe had he not gotten crunched against Philly last year, he would have had that last year and he can be a decent player for us. It is no good asking him to come in for an odd game in the cup and be a world beater like everyone expects him to be. My Huddersfield mate said Barnsley last year played very poor long ball and Shea hardly had a chance with them, so for me it is a little harsh to blame him for not performing there

A question In the 2nd half how many of gladbachs starting x1 players did they use? I thought they were better in the 2nd half and I want to judge ourselves in my mind. Aside from World Cup players, Kramer, Johnson and Xhaka. They used a pretty much full squad today

Preseason is for working out the kinks. some people dont see it that way they want them to be up to speed straight away and never making mistakes. People cant see what friendlies are actually about; game fitness, shape, positioning, linkage and gelling. I accept that it was a preseason friendly, but for me, it did not excuse that piss poor pass from Charlie Adam. it was lazy.

Quite impressed with Shea, although I did think he looked o.k last year, in the cup game against Brum. I think he's worth hanging on to.
