They've just copied and pasted an article from a Swiss website that just makes up rumours. There's no truth in it whatsoever.

They did sign Mr Adel Taarabt and we all know Arnie's a better player than him..

Get used to it. Good players playing decent football will always attract speculation.
Hopefully this time around we'll get the right money for our star players, unlike back in the day when we used to sell the likes of Dixon and Bould to Arsenal.

I don't doubt the interest in Arnie, but I am 100% sure Hughes would not sell him - Right now we are buying quality not selling it

Arnie would be wise to have atnleast another year with us before even thinking about any offer from a big club.
But the problem is...is Arnie wise?

Well he has already said he wants to stay for 1 or 2 years more. He says he is happy, the fans love him, playing in a much better league here. Hes one of our highest paid players also. I just dont see that happenng, although Mario is at AC :/

Doubt there is any truth in this, even though they have the far inferior Adel Taarabt on their books. I would only consider letting him go for £15 mill plus.

Much as we may not like it - buying low and selling high will play a big part in the club achieving it's aspiration of being self sustained. Finding the right balance is key though...

Spot on mate.
And I'm not really sure why people think it's such an outlandish story, it may or may not be true but it's a totally plausible one I would have thought.
He's played in Milan before and Mario is his best mate. You could see why he would go there if they wanted him.
It's whether Milan actually do want him and are prepared to cough up the readies to match our valuation of the player that is key I would have thought.

Agreed. This type of arrangement has so far been absent from our PL involvement. But take a look at what one seasons relative success has done for Southampton...
Great post.

I agree Paul. Italian football not flush with cash and they would be looking to find cheaper, higher risk options.
North Stokie is right too. We will have to become a club that unearths a few nuggets to polish up and sell big.
There is clearly a limit as to how much the Coates family/Bet365 will want to put in.
Maybe there is an opportunity to have one last real push, try to keep Bego, Ryan, Arnie, even N'Zonzi, and add Diouf and maybe Riviere to Bardsley. With a bit of luck, that team could surprise a few next season. With the family owning the stadium, space for development, the club could be ripe for selling to an ambitious new owner.
Either way, more exciting times ahead.

The lure of playing in Italy is not what it used to be. Milan can't even offer European football.

There are also rumours that Mario may return to the Prem as he is getting pissed off with the racism he meets in Italy. So, hopefully, Arnie will check on Mario's plans before he heads to Milan. Pity Mario plays for Inter and not AC - we could have done a simple swap!

With all the forwards we are supposedly signing I can't see how Arnie can be staying (unless of course we are not signing Diouf, Assaidi AND Riviere).

None of Diouf, Assaidi or Riviere can play the sort of role he has in our team. He's nominally a winger but he pops up all over the place. EDIT: I realise this concept is as difficult for you to grasp, March, as it was for TP!

Seriously though, I am getting more concerned by the day that we are signing players now as a sweetener because it is becoming more clear that we are going to be selling some big names. Why have we just signed Stephen Ireland if Arnie is going to be playing his role? We NEED Diouf to come in to replace Crouch. We don't NEED to sign Assaidi nor Riviere, especially for the money being quoted. They are going to be bench warmers or new signings Odemwingie and Ireland will be bench warmers. Something doesn't add up here, I'm afraid.

I realise you are one of the old timers who think that the manager should get through the season with 13 or 14 decent players - but Hughes obviously doesn't agree with you - thank God.

Something doesn't add up here, I'm afraid. I don't see us signing Diouf and Rivière. I see it as one or the other. As Paul said, the new model long term is to buy younger players for reasonable fees and sell them on for a hefty profit. Arnie isn't going to be playing in the Ireland role. He's going to be playing on the flanks, where he's most effective. He's been far and away our most creative force from that position.
