£7 million for a player who is not even guaranteed a first team place. I don’t think so.

We were told that we had. And let's face it on the most part we've not had much wrong these past couple of months, so we had every reason to believe it to be true. We've? Or you've been told, like the rest of us. Don't claim to be something when you're only getting told stuff, just like the rest of us. Sorry yes, I've been told. Right before you were. Anyway, I doubt we'll shell out £7m for him, but reckon he'll still join.

If Liverpool had paid £6 or £7 million for him and he'd ended up here on loan and had had EXACTLY the same season he has had with us, then would we think he was worth more now than most of us seem to do?
Is our perception of what he's worth influenced by what Liverpool originally paid for him?
We paid what £2 or £3 million for Arnie, what will he be worth now or even what will he be worth in 12 months time?
I guess we have to consider Assaidi's potential when attempting to establish what we want to pay for him now.
Having said all that, personally I haven't really got a clue what he's worth.
Fair comment Paul but I actually think that, had Liverpool paid £7M for him and he'd failed to make an impact there, had then come to Stoke and had some good games, some poor and some indifferent, then I doubt they would be claiming that his value had increased much, if at all. They paid £2.5 million for him and he made little impact with them since when he's had a handful of impressive games for Stoke. For them to see his value as having tripled on the strength of that is complete madness. I like him very much and I hope we sign him but £7 Million is bonkers.
I guess the point I'm trying to make Doz is that I think the fee that Liverpool paid for him is pretty much irrelevant to how we should value him now.
You yourself in your reply to mine have again referred to it, personally I think it's a red herring and I expect Mark Hughes will see it that way too.

He shouldn't do though.
If he doesn't think Assaidi is worth £7, £6, £5, £4 or whatever millions of our money, then fairs do's, absolutely move on.
But whatever Liverpool paid for him is irrelevant - imho.

I'm not sure 7mill will be the eventual figure but very confident he will be a stoke player in the next two or three weeks

Absolutely no one has called him shit. In fact about the only person doing so is march and that's when the price was 3 million, so fuck knows what You've been reading! People just don't think he's worth 7 million.

Ossie Assaidi will sign, but for closer to £5m plus add-ons I reckon. If he wants to stay in the UK, it will be with us.
To put it into perspective, we paid £5m for Dean Whitehead.......

I reckon we hold more cards than Liverpool in this case.
The longer they hold out, the more money they're wasting on his wages. He seems to want to come to us, and Liverpool can't expect too many other clubs to be interested in him or meet their demands. Ultimately, we can go elsewhere and they'll be left paying a player they don't want. At the end, I think they'll have to accept around £4.5m for him which I reckon would be a fair enough price for both sides. Just a case of us toughing it out for a while.

Right. You say 7. We say 3.
4.5 last offer. Take it or leave it and we move on.
Piece of piss this negotiation lark.
I'll do it :-)

We pay over that amount and it's not a good use of funds. Only head ache for us is he could be good use to Liverpool with the added games from the Champs League for them.

No I agree with you Paul and I mention his original fee simply to ask the question (a fair one in my view) ....."Can they really justify tripling his value based on what he's done since they signed him?" Put it this way, had they paid £10 million for him and he'd done exactly what he has with them and with us, would they be looking for a profit or do you think they would be asking us for less? My guess is the latter. We will no doubt be looking to make a good profit on NZonzi if he goes so I have no problem with ignoring his fee when he joined us. But then, we can justify the inflated fee because he's been a regular high performer in the Premier League since we signed him. It's fair to mention Assaidi's fee to Liverpool when measuring if he's actually now worth three times that fee IMO. If he IS and it can be justified then the original fee is (I agree irrelevant) but I don't believe it CAN be justified.

I've only just had a look at this thread and seriously? £7m? Fuck that right off! Is this real? Have Liverpool definitely stated that they want that amount of cash for him? I (naively it seems) thought that they'd snap our hands off if we offered £3m for him to be honest, as if he's ever going to get any game time there, especially now they think they're billy big bananas. I'm also pretty disturbed that some people (our fans) would be actually happy if we spent that sort of money on Assaidi. 7 (SEVEN)

Liverpool are willing to let him go. They want £7.
Question is... Who else would be willing to pay that sort of money when Liverpool only paid £2.5?
Answer No one.
Liverpool are a joke.

4.5m is a fair price - ideal replacment for Matty and to keep Arnie on his toes
