smudge,he didnt see adebayor assault ryan,he did however see ryan put in a reckless challenge when he was on a yellow card.as for the other incidents you dragged up,there isnt a ref in the world of football who could stand up to so much scrutiny.some people find it harder than others to take off their blinkers If he didn't see Adebayor assault Ryan, then why did he give a foul? Don't think he gave a foul, did he?.

Ryan's second was harsh plain and simple and only given because Andre had forgot he had booked him in the first half. Eyes on the ball and Rose got there just before. Foul yes, a good ref would have reminded him he was on a yellow and give him final warning. Sadly we had a clown in charge.

I thought the sending off was soft but it wasn't surprising given Stoke's reputation, a reputation which is definitely not fairly appraised, but hey it is what it is, it seems. Seemed, as said previously, that Marriner had forgotten that Shawcross was on a yellow so boxed himself into a corner after issuing what he thought was a 1st yellow. That said there is no doubt that Ryan's tackle was a clear foul and it was not altogether surprising that it ended the way it did, given the decisions that we have been on the end of all throughout this season.
This, I believe, is down to the Ramsey/Wenger effect which still follows us in the media and I wonder how many points this has cost us? Certainly some sort of campaign for more parity needs to be undertaken by the club.

If you were there you'd know he forgot. He pulled out the yellow then farted about for a bit. It looked like someone reminded him and he finally reached for the red.
The whole incident was dealt with in a farcical manner.

The ref did forget he'd already book Ryan. Look at the footage. He books ryan puts it back in his pocket then spurs players are in the refs face with two fingers indicating he's got to go. He then reaches for the red.

Perhaps you'd find more sympathy for your attempt to be even handed Ray if this wasn't the same referee who... - Didn't even book Adebayor for his elbow in the face on Ryan Shawcross.
- Decided to show he CAN be a lenient referee when he chose not to send off Gary Neville for two vicious, scything lunges on Matthew Etherington three years ago.
- Hadn't sent off the wrong player in a game a few weeks ago.
The man is an utter cretin, with no moral courage whatsoever and that won't have changed when the dust has finally settled,
Spot on Smudge and to be honest 'now that the dust has settled' I still despise and hate to a point of wanting to murder the following all in cold blood: 1. Scumbag Rose. He joins the elite group of cheating, diving generally 'small' little men (Ashley Young, Fraizer Campbell, Raheem Sterling and Craig Bellamy are four other classic examples) we have seen at the Brit and all really need to be taken out with a baseball bat sometime soon. 2. Adebayor. Quite possibly one of the most odious tw*ts I have ever had the displeasure of seeing at close quarters. Incidentally I would not use a bat; a club with 6 inch nails would be more fitting for this particular individual. 3. Andre Marinade. Bitter Brummy that can't tell one Arsenal player from another and allowed Etherington to be flattened twice with hardly a raised eyebrow. He challenges Atkinson and Wiley for 'the ref I would most like to run over with a double decker bus'....twice....including a reverse. I am also wound up by the occasional supposed Stokie coming on here and justifying why the ref was right, Ryan is/was a thug and Danny Rose is/was as innocent as Bambi. (If the word 'precious' appears on this site one more time my head is likely to rotate in a worrying manner). Rant over. Yes, the dust may have settled, but unfortunately my disillusionment with the modern game and second rate seemingly biased officials hasn't.

a lot of fans have convinced themselves that the ref "forgot" he had booked ryan earlier."clutching at straws" springs to mind. Okay so what was the reason for the time between showing the 2nd yellow and the subsequent red and how is clutching at straws relevant to the situation? He was sent off for the 2nd foul and the punishment will obviously stand so fairness/unfairness is not relevant practically speaking and I am sure pretty much everyone knows this. The rest is personal opinion unless Marriner is posting on here in disguise or something, so the delay that is being discussed is quite obviously of interest for the discussion.

I can only assume OP is either 14, has an agenda, or simply knows fuck all about footy. It was a fucking outrageous decision, which was purely a result of the fact that a) Danny Rose acted like the cheating shit he is and rolled around like he'd been shot in the arse and b) the incompetent waste of space ref FORGOT he'd already given Ryan a card. The shithouse. To cap it off he then fails to send Rose off for running 15 yards to try to shove Cameron to the ground in a dictionary definition of 'violent conduct'. Nothing will convince me that the final decision wasn't utterly biased. Still seething, to the point where I'm genuinely starting to debate whether it's all worth it. I truly hate modern fucking football. TOTALLY agree!!!!! Who is this bloody OP anyway? A WUM of the highest order in my book. I am still smoldering too. My head nearly came off at the game yesterday and I gave myself a migraine, the ref killed a perfectly good contest that I had paid GOOD MONEY to see!!!! Plus we deserved at least a point from the game. Stuff your supposed 'intelligent' interpretation of the rules 1ray, you know f all. Marinade simply didn't know that he was issuing a second yellow to Ryan yesterday, he screwed up big time. My wife was at the game yesterday too, block 28 row 5. She is a qualified ref(!) and as soon as Rose laid into Cameron she said immediately 'red'. The ref is a total tosspot, you know it, I know it, so stop your bloody wind up and admit that the ref got it all wrong AGAIN yesterday.

Ray has a point - Ryan was silly to go in late when he was already on a yellow. He ran a heck of a long way to get to a ball that he was always going to reach second and was daft to leave his foot in.
However, I do not agree with his defence of the ref. Marriner let play continue (in Stoke's favour!) for a long time, before he was duped by Rose's theatrics. He was then too quick to flash the yellow before considering the consequences - he had clearly forgotten that he had booked Ryan in the 1st half. The shove by Rose is up for debate, but I have seen them given and would be interested to see if he would have reacted he same way had it been the other way round. As for the elbow, he certainly saw something, because he had strong words with Adebayor on two occasions immeidately after the event - but he clearly bottled the big decision.
As already pointed out, he has shown his bias towards big clubs before with the Neville incident, and he has shown his ineptitude on many occasions, but none moreso than the Gibbs fiasco.
He is clearly not up to refereeing at this level.
