If it was next week id play 433 with henderson, gerrard and milner in midfield, stirling rooney and sturridge up front. Get the liverpool players in, they are destroying sides at the moment!

Can/does Rodriguez play wide left for Soton? I'm not sure I really rate Cahill and is this World Cup too soon for Shaw? I like where you've put Gerrard. He plays super deep for Liverpool especially in the latter stage of games. Squad/subs? Butland Cole, Smalling, Baines, Henderson, Carrick, Milner, Lampard, Barkley, Townsend, Lambert, Welbeck ????

No way should chamberlain get anywhere near an England shirt IMO . He is very overrated and, along with Wilshere and Walcott, only picked because Wenger says they should. Lampard could still do a decent job, is ten times the player and Chamberlain isn't fit to lick never mind clean Lampard's boots . He should concentrate on his goal keeping.

Picking a team on current form:
Hart
Johnson (we really are shit in R/B position) Shawcross Cahill Shaw
Oxlade Gerrard Barclay Lallana
Rooney Sturridge

----------------Hart----------------
Johnson - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines
------Wilshere------Gerrard--------
Milner---------------------Lallana
-------------Rooney--------------
------------Sturridge--------------
I think Milner has to start against Italy and it makes more sense to pair your better defensive wide man on the same side as your weaker full back so he needs to play ahead of Johnson. Against Uruguay and Costa Rica I would probably start Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right and hopefully bring Milner on to see the game out when we are in a winning position.

Against Italy we need someone to be in Pirlo's pocket all game long. Wherever and whenever he's looking for the ball our guy has to be right there. Then we have a chance. The problem being is Woy didn't spot this at the Euro's. Let's hope he's learnt.

Picking a team on current form: Hart Johnson (we really are shit in R/B position) Shawcross Cahill Shaw Oxlade Gerrard Barclay Lallana Rooney Sturridge This would be very interesting! Plenty of pace. I'd rather go down in a blaze of glory in the WC than capitulate merely. Don't think it will happen though - not enough Man Ure players in the team!

Surely Sterling is the best wide option at the moment. Different class to any of the others.

That's exactly the team I was going to post, the only decision for me would be whether to go with Lallana or Barkley?

I'd considered that as well Paul, but on balance I'd keep Barkley on the bench. He's still raw and was hauled off at half time today. Give him 20 mins against tiring opposition at the end of games and I think he could have a real impact.

----------------------Hart--------------------- Johnson---Cahill----Jagielka----Baines -------Henderson-------Gerrard----------- Sterling---------Lallana----------Rooney ------------------Sturridge-------------------- Looks good. Then pad the squad out with genuine game-changers off the bench, and just take the 7 defenders

I'd go for Hart Johnson Cahill Shawcross (wishful thinking) Baines Gerrard Henderson Lallana Rooney Rodriguez Sturridge
Shaw Lambert Barkley all deserve to go. The rest of the places are up for grabs

As it stands, I think I'd go with that XI.
The squad defenders are difficult to select - but you'd assume that it's almost certainly going to be the Man Utd pair as Shawcross' face doesn't fit.
I'd go with just the one RB in the 23 to give us greater flexibility with the attacking options. Milner or Jones could play there in an emergency
I'd probably go with:
Jones, Smalling, Shaw Lampard, Barkley, Rodriguez, Ox, Milner Welbeck, Carroll.
to round out the squad.

Hart
Johnson Cahill Jagielka (needs to get back in the team though, Stones looks a real good prospect) Baines
Gerrard Chamberlain Henderson
Lallana Sturridge Sterling/Rooney .. Yes, I'm seriously undecided on whether Rooney should play or not.

I'd take Jones to cover RB and CB from the bench, but there must be a better option than Smalling, surely? Even if we're going to pretend that Shawcross doesn't exist for these purposes. Dawson from Spurs? I'd also take Wilshire ahead of Rodriguez (Rooney can cover the main striker role), Townsend ahead of Ox and Lambert ahead of Carroll.

I'd swap Milner for Henderson. And I aren't sure I'd have Rooney in the side either. That's from jamerg's side.

He isn't. In central midfield he's actually a decent player imo, he's a good all round box to boxer who's got a goal in him. On the wing he is but then he isn't a winger.

A journeyman plodder who will offer nothing other than defensive cover. For once the squad has some skilful footballers to consider yet people are still harping on about runners.
