Just how bad can it get for Pompey. Only two points off a place in non league. As there ever been a quicker fall from grace

Just what the fuck actually happened there?
It's absolutely catastrophic but no one appears to have actually suffered any consequences barring the fans.

To many previous owners who knew bugger all about football. Do the Pompey Trust own them now? Be a big shame for them if they go out of the league

Pompey have been near the bottom of the division for most of the year.
Northampton are getting their act together and look as if they will catch them.
Unfortunately a mate of mine is a Bristol Rovers fan-and though 3 weeks ago they were looking safe they are now only 1 point above Portsmouth!!

Why do people blame Redknapp for what happened at Pompey?
Over the period of his second stint there between 2005-2008 he spent 65M.
During his time there and players that he signed and were sold after he left he raised double that in fee's alone - selling nearly 120M worth of players. (Look on the transfers section for Pompey on Soccerbase between Dec 05 and 08 for the incoming transfers, and extend it to 09/10 season for the last remaining outgoing Redknapp players!)
That's a net spend of -55M, not counting the revenue their FA Cup win brought in, along with their European 'run'.
Compare that to our last manager's net spend!

Just what the fuck actually happened there? It's absolutely catastrophic but no one appears to have actually suffered any consequences barring the fans. Plus dozens of local and national businesses left being owed large sums of money and only getting a fraction back. The Administrators report below contains all of them (from page 33 onwards) i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01621/Portsmouth_Report__1621382a.pdf

No sympathy with them at all, living down among them, they were all too quick to give it large when we first played them in 2008 "you're just a pub team look at us we won the cup etc etc" well actually in a few months boys you will be playing a few pub teams!!

can see still big Johnny Gayle scoring at the away end to seal a draw, good memories, the people to the west in Southampton are also starting to give it a bit large now!

Even if Harry bought big time - who set the budget for him?
If MH or TP had gone to Coates wanting to spend £65million what do you think the answer would be.

Like farehampotter I'm going to be a massive non-conformist here and say one of the team's I despised the most when they were in the Premiership were Portsmouth. Deluded fans, who felt they were bigger than they really are, gave it the biggun all the time "we're Pompey, we've won the cup, you're Stoke, you're shit". They were happy to ride the rollercoaster that is kamikaze spending sprees and they're now enjoying the fall from grace that comes with living 'beyond' your means as opposed to within them. And some people think Peter Coates is a bad chairman... Edit: And for those who slag Harry Redknapp off, he was given a budget, not his fault the owners couldn't come up with the money required.

Show me a team that doesn't have deluded fuckwit fans who go gobbing off about how great they are and take the piss out other clubs. Show me a team that doesn't also have a load of decent fans who don't do that kind if half brain childish shit. Agree about Redknapp though it's not as if he could go around with the club's cheque book in his back pocket buying whatever took his fancy. I don't care whether they stay up or go down as long as the Gas stay up. If it comes down to them or the gas they can fcuk off into oblivion. BM

Compare that to our last manager's net spend! 1) because it's easy and lazy 2) because they don't understand how football works and just look at the spend total and think that's it 3) because they seem to think that the manager can just go out and spend all the money they want without even having to consult or have it pass by the board of directors, accountants, financial directors and chairman 4) because they dislike Harry so he's an easy target and whether it's factually correct is therefore irrelevant apparently

harry was given the green light to buy any players he fancied without any thoughtto how they were going to pay for their contracts.it could only ever go one way no surprise when the shit hit the fan arry left[did he have a brown paper bag or was his dog with him?] what surprises me is that after the leeds debacle that any team was allowed to gamble the future of their club. some stokies dont realise how lucky we are to have peter coates at the helm. i support our transfer policy and in fact i would suggest our squad has never been stronger. one consolation i doubt we will have to listen to that knob with the bell again!!

And some people think Peter Coates is a bad chairman... Edit: And for those who slag Harry Redknapp off, he was given a budget, not his fault the owners couldn't come up with the money required. I, like fareham, lived among them, for many years, they are a strange breed of people (as Harry Redknapp himself said in an interview not long ago). When they first got Mandaric's millions and started buying players and moving up the league they were unbearable, people who'd shown no real interest (previously) were now claiming they'd been season ticket holders for years! I think a lot of it was driven by the local rag, bear in mind they only have the one team (realistically) to worry about. Wearing a Stoke top out and about is a no-no unless you're in the mood for a bundle, some thick twat will undoubtedly think you're wearing a Southampton (a much nicer bunch of people and fans) top and try and have a pop. I used to play poker a lot in a Southampton casino, must've played there dozens of times and never saw a cross word spoken. My mate badgered me to play in a tournament in a Pompey casino that was just starting them, it kicked off before the first break. I don't really want them to drop out of the league, hanging around where they are would be ok by me. I have some mates who are Pompey fans and have travelled away with them on stag do's, I actually do feel for those obviously but there's thousands of the other insular miserable fuckers that deserve it. I'm just glad I didn't live there when they won the FA Cup!
