I've been told for the past however many years that it's not the type of football that is played it's the result. Passing is irrelevant, as is possession. Stoke fans don't want to see open attractive football, we're a working class area and put grit, effort and hard work above anything else. We want it in the 'mixer', get it forward quickly, no fannying about....
Why now the jizz fest over a half decent performance yesterday?
Anyone care to shed any light?

Apparently you did not witness the first fifteen minutes and the collective shit start with terrible passing, marking and crap tackle attempts. It turned around to be one of the best team performances I can remember away if not the best. PO, Cameron, Crouch and Nzonzi's goals were all class. Smiling smug stoke players leaving... Haven't seen that ever for stoke. I wasn't around in the 70's but did near 7 footers side foot to score and did our RB's score goals like that? Just wondering? |

I think you're talking about some fickle stoke fans, not stoke fans in general. Also I'd rather we mixed it up rather than piss about with the ball like Swansea with barely any end product, like we are now.
In conclusion, it's nice to be able to turn on the style when we want, and when it's appropriate, ie against Chelsea, Arsenal and United then we can beat them into submission within the rules of the game, thus prompting more tears from Wenger.

I would have been thrilled with a 1-0 to Stoke last night, but winning comfortably 4-1 away really makes me believe! One of the most enjoyable away games I've ever seen when Stoke involved! Pugsley I think you will find that, while many fans were bemoaning Pulis and his one dimensional tactics, many fans justified them by hiding behind what you have described above mate. I was around in the 60's watching Waddos tactics help us avoid relegation in several seasons. Although they weren't as dire as TP, it was a breath of fresh air when we evolved in the late 60's and early 70's to become an attractive ball playing outfit that graced many grounds. Just enjoy it while it's here, as I doubt it will last forever. |

Fans will put up with dross and grinding out results if survival is required, but only for so long.
When we know that the team is capable of more and we look back to the style we used to play with in our heyday then it's right we crave style and results. At the end of the day that's what we want.
The jizz fest now is because we can see we are now getting what we have always wanted. It's exciting and unbelievable for those who have waited 40 years to see it again.

One massive thing the capped one never understood but Waddo did, Leslie seems to as well - S-o-T was one of the most creative, craft-based working class areas in Europe, yes we had pits and steelworks but the pots were what made us different and I'd say, still do make us different. People designed and largely handmade beautiful things. That's why the working man's ballet happened here and, never know, might just be happening again now... (But the capped one was still exactly what we needed for the time he was here.) |
