I have it on good authority that the naming rights for the Brit are up for grabs..
Fancy the stadium named after you? stump up a cool 1.25M per season and it's yours.
The clubs holding company have had at least 3 interested parties or so I'm told.
Also, Bet 365 turnover has increased by almost 10 billion this year! Crazy

i don't see why we can't keep the name Britannia. as a word it isn't copywrighted or trademarked so all we need is to change the signage so the font etc. is different to the Building socity's logo (although they won't exist anymore anyway will they?)

Wonder if we'll see it renamed the Bet365 Stadium?

I agreed mate.
The problem is though as we all know money talks.
With financial play kicking in clubs are having to create commercial revenue wherever possible.,

The likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea have all retained their original ground names, why can't we do the same?
Sponsors can be around the ground, be part of a stand name, on the shirts etc

It is known the world over as the britannia stadium, as previously stated it is not a copyright, it is a very powerful name and even if bet 365 sponsor it, why not the bet365 britannie stadium, the oval in london wont let that name go, the sponsors have to have their name before it eg fosters oval brit oval etc

I wouldn't mind a hybrid name - something such as "The JCB Britannia Stadium" or the "Bet365 Britannia Stadium" that way we could (and would) still call it the Brit.

I don't think bet365 would want the naming rights as bringing in another company adds to the revenue! Haven't bet 365 said the same?

I think it'll be always known as 'the Brit' or be called 'the Britannia' by Sky or other news outlets, which would be nice as it'd retain some character rather than just being known as a stadium that is sponsored by a building society that no longer exists.
Even if it is 'the Bet365 Britannia Stadium', that'd be fine by me.

Because those teams have huge incomes from around the world, probably more income than us in shirt sales alone let alone foreign sponsors etc.
With FFP now in place the more income you can generate the better it is on the whole especially in terms of teams salary expenditure so selling the naming rights is a quick win for all involved.
I wouldn't mind any name really, let's be honest we already have a company doing this we just got lucky it was a decent sounding company like Britannia that had a dual meaning. The Bet365 Arena would be the obvious choice as long as it isn't something daft.
Walters seems to be bleeding from a gash every week how about the Tampax arena ???

Victoria's Secrets? {now where's that photo of SJW in the flesh coloured bra?}
in theory, Bet365 taking on the naming rights of the stadium could circumvent the vicissitudes of FFP. Not sure Sir Peter would be happy with that though. Could well be a pivotal moment in the Club's history.

[/quote] I'm sure that there is scope (if they wanted to) to increase the amount of sponsorship paid to put the Bet365 name on the shirts. But, as Nicholas says above, I doubt that Bet365 would want to do that. They'll want to bring in another sponsor to increase the income without increasing what the parent company already pay to fund the losses. The idea is to reduce their financial support not to increase it!

The Co-op are skint so it won't be that. Britannia as a brand has an unknown future and it's parent company, see above, are skint so that's unlikely Bet365 don't really need naming rights as their branding is all round the stadium anyway.

The fact that the Coop still own the Britannia brand is surely irrelevant. You can't actually copyright the word Britannia as is has been in the public domain for centuries. Only the word Britannia when coupled with a particular font can be copyright. I doubt if the Coop could even object to the name being the 'HSBC Britannia' providing the font and EXACT colour didn't mimic the old Britannia logo.

To keep Britannia, we would be retaining the original sponsor's name. That's another reason why a hybrid name is probably the answer. Just as an example, " The JCB Britannia Stadium" or just " The JCB Britannia" would sound ok and the word Britannia would not be likely to confuse anyone into thinking that Britain's biggest manufacturer of construction machinery had some link to a ex Building Society now subsumed into the Coop Bank.
