He may be an irritating adenoidal twat as a commentator but he was a truly brilliant player. Helped drag Notts Forrest to European cup win - the one bit of class in the team alongside Robertson - and I remember a league cup game when we were at home to Man City when he beat us on his own.

I wonder if Francis and Jasper Carrott's mums were both on the same Brummie milkman's rounds?

He's the worst of a very bad bunch of co-commentaters. His utter hatred for Stoke never fails to shine through. He's not alone, though. Radio 5 were having a Pulis wankfest when Palace were playing Arsenal yesterday. Funny how the same commentators gave Tone only grudging respect when he was our manager. Even Durham is saying how well Tone is doing with Palace. He's doing nothing different now than when he was with us, so these commentators must hate Stoke not Pulis. Even MOTD concentrated on how bad Man.Utd were, not how well we played. We deserved to win and had plenty of chances to make the scoreline even worse for them. You are right about Francis, though. He is a low culprit and a vengeful snide.

He's a complete cuntbugle, but I think a lot of what he says is actually tempered by that fucking soporific drone that accompanies the torrents of alphabetical effluent embarking on their pointless journey from his stupid fucking mouth. In fact, it possibly explains why he was such an unmitigated failure as a manager; his team-talks must have been about as inspirational as a promotional video made by the British Dishwater Marketing Board.
I'd go as far as suggesting that, had Hitler been born with Francis's adenoids, he'd never have won the election in '33 and the world would have been a very different place.

As a manager he never got through his team talks as his players were all asleep!

I just Googled Trevor Francis quotes, to see if I could find something that might sound inspirational if only it was said without Trevor's soporific drone. The top quote on the list, and presumably therefore Trevor's most inspirational remark of all-time, came during the Cardiff v West Ham game in January this year: "I think there would have been greater emotion if that goal had been scored in the 91st minute." That comment couldn't have provoked any excitement if Mao Zedong had said it at a kid's birthday party, while six sheets to the wind, standing on a table and holding a hand grenade.

Lets just hope he never has to read the eulogy at a loved one's funeral. "It's all very sad, but you'd have been more gutted if he'd died at Christmas."
