"STOKE City and Tony Pulis going head-to-head for the same signing... it's almost surreal." "The only logical explanation can be that the Palace boss misread Riviere's age as 33, not 23, which is not impossible given his eyesight."

SentinelPlayer Watch sources suggest Stoke see Riviere as the real deal following the disappointment of missing out on other strike targets, such as West Brom's Shane Long and Mame Biram Diouf of German club Hannover.
Stoke technical director Mark Cartwright is believed to have already seen Riviere play several times, suggesting he was always the club's prime target, and not fellow Monaco forward Lacina Traore, who has also been linked with the Potters.
What does this mean? We're not sure if Cartwright has definitely seen him but we can tell you that Cartwright is suggesting he's the club's prime target? Spinks does write some nonsense at times. Well, it makes out that the sentinel have reason to believe that Cartwright has watched Rivière a few times, and if that actually is the case, it suggests that he was the main target all along. Which would make sense really. But perhaps just putting 2+2 together rather than factual reporting?

Spinks also needs to be careful in that the tone of such a statement is far better suited to after the ink is dry on a contract, not while we still could potentially lose him to a certain ex manager or a certain London gaffer with a fat head.
Does he really not know how slow / bad we are at getting deals over the line?

He's probably like the rest of us. As in, he's not got a clue who we're tracking! And also I suppose he's got to try and make his job seem worthwhile, so he puts a spin on these tenuous links.

Tis a weird one.
Do we want him to play well or not?

If we were close to signing him you'd think he wouldn't play. Probably another load of bollocks.

If he's on the bench it sounds like we've maybe inquired and offered £65.50, and they want a good price. If we were close or agreed on price he wouldn't be involved.
