Why? Is he transferring to Arsenal/Chelsea/liverpool or United?

Here's a poll. He'd go as my backup after Terry and Cahill on merit, I think. Roy won't take him unless he has to, but there's every chance an injury or two to the right people will get him on the plane.

Unfortunately not. He's not at a fashionable enough club, so he will get overlooked. It would take a huge number of injuries before Roy comes calling for him.
And personally, I don't think he's the right type of defender for England anyway. He has a poor first touch, which is improving, but it's seen as important for the national side. However, he is an immense DEFENDER, but sadly that doesn't warrant a call-up nowadays. Now, if England played a style similar to TP's Stoke, then he'd be our national captain.

Should make it, but won't. His debut didn't help, but as long as he wears a Stoke top his chances are slim to none.

He has a chance : 1: because he's good 2: England have a small pool of players in his position to choose from 3: Hodgson has picked him before
Without at least 2 injuries/suspensions.imprisonment to players ahead of him in the queue (why Smalling gets caps I've no idea...) though he won't go.

Roy is more likely to pick a United under 16 reserve than Ryan. When was the last time you saw his owl face hooting at the Britannia (unless United, arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool were playing).
He deserves a proper chance not 10 minutes at the end of a disorganized friendly.

If there was a better centre half performance by any Englishman this season than Shawcross on New Years day where the young forward of the season is hauled off without a sniff then I'm a Welshman. I'm sure Woy was watching either Liverpool reserves or someone 20 miles from his house though.

He should be, but Hodgson has already said 'no surprises' over squad selection. If I were England manager, he'd be starting every game as captain.

Hodgson made it clear that he meant no uncapped players re 'no surprises' so Ryan & Huddlestone (for e.g.) will be under consideration wheras Behrino (sp) at WBA wont be (for e.g.) still, cant see the media bigging Ryan up like they are with Huddlestone (rightly though)..

The only better English centre backs are Terry and Jagielka, and Terry is retired. Cahill makes 2 - 3 awful mistakes per England game, yet is deemed undroppable because he plays for Chelsea.
Unless something changes dramatically, if Ryan doesn't go then I will be unable to support England as the England side will not be truely representing England, but merely the clubs Roy chooses to select from.

My guess is that Hodgson's 4 CB's will be Cahill Jegeilka with Jones & Smalling with Lescott on standby.
After that Ryan,Caulker & Dawson (in no order) don't think anyone else has even a sniff of a chance
wouldn't be my choice mind.

I don't think he has a chance as long as Woy is in charge. The media would have a field day if Woy selected Ryan and they would forever be dragging up his debut against Ibrahimovic, and probably the Ramsey tackle. In the unlikely (IMO) scenario that he was selected I think he would be on the bench at best.

What odds can you get for Ryan making the squad for Brazil? Injury to cahill and or jagielka before the end of the season and Ryan will be there. Make sure your passport is up to date Ryan.....

He should make the squad because he's by far the best defender the country has and thats not stoke tinted specs on. He's always putting his body on the line and doesn't over complicate things.
However I don't know any single media outlet or internet blog (bar this forum) that even mentions Ryan as a possibility. Still never mind I'm more interested in watching Cahill go for a run around in midfield than him defending.

He's a very very good defender. But of the unfashionable sort. Does the hard stuff well; committed, precise and makes very few errors. I'd be delighted, proud and agreeing if he were to be selected but I think he's an outsider.

The media circus after that Ramsey tackle has ****** up every rational thought towards Ryan. The media has a psychological 50% influence in who gets picked for England.

I'm not sure..... Admittedly I have no interest in England for obvious reasons lol, however if he performs well against Chelsea in the televised Cup game then I think people will start to sit up and take notice. With him now playing the ball out of defence more frequently this will reinforce the view that he is not just a 'hoof' merchant and would be a better fit for selection. Even if we lose, a strong performance will massively help!
