Well Crouch is a no no according to Hughes' latest comments. If we were to sell him though, why should we subsidise the deal - that's why there are parachute payments. I don't agree with parachute payments but they do exist so clubs getting them should not expect subsidies as well.

MailStoke's scouring of the Bundesliga for different strikers has led them to look at Adrian Ramos of Hertha Berlin.
The Colombian was the subject of a bid from West Bromwich Albion back in August, while Hull City also made an enquiry.
Both were put off by Hertha's asking price and the Germans still want up to £7million for a player who has scored 11 goals in 17 games, including four in his last three.
One familiar problem that may occur though is that of a work permit. Stoke have already been frustrated in their pursuit of USA international Juan Agudelo after the Home Office blocked the move and may struggle with Ramos, who although has 22 caps for Colombia, has not been selected since November 2011.
Borussia Dortmund, who he scored against on Saturday in a 2-1 win and Arsenal have also been linked with Ramos this season.
Mame Biram Diouf remains on Stoke's list as he stalls on a new deal with Hannover, but Ramos has a better goal record.
Stoke would ideally sell Kenwyne Jones to pave the way with the striker out of contract in the summer.
QPR manager Harry Redknapp has an interest in Peter Crouch and Tottenham's Jermain Defoe but both will take some creative budgeting with Stoke and Tottenham having to subsidise any deal.
It does make you wonder, why with his current form, isn't he making the Colombian squad? If he is likely to be in Brazil, I guess he could be one of those players 'worth' £7 million in January, who ultimately could end up being worth maybe double that come the summer.

Why should he need a work permit ? Thought there was supposed to be free movement for work in the EU

Mainly doesn't play for Colombia due to their system and the fact they already have falcao and Martinez, two of the mlast in form strikers in Europe. They have James Rodriguez and players like guarin, muriel and ibarbo too and ramos had to fight them for the final place

At that price (& given his likely wages) you can see why we are shopping in Germany.

I am always a little bit cautious when I read stories like this. We where made to look daft with Demba Ba and one or two other foreign players and their agents putting themselves in the shop window via Stoke City. This lads credentials look good but if something sounds to good to be true then it usually is.. Time will tell.

Wasn't exactly prolific at Bundesliga 2 level. 11 goals in 21(3) apps - 2012/13 season and then 6 goals in 29(4) apps the season before.
Maybe worth a punt but don't think we should put all our eggs in the Ramos basket.

The majority of the league managers would love a player who could score every 2nd game.

I can understand that it's very difficult to get into the starting 11 but would have thought that he should at least be in the squad. Any way this work permit nonsense is quite ridiculous in my opinion. It's not as if the uk will be overrun by strikers from Colombia like its been with plumbers and what- have- you from Poland

We made Ba look daft and then he's made us look like pricks since! Does that include his appearance in the recent Chelsea match, when we beat them 3 - 2 ?

He's having a bad time at Chelsea at the moment but, since we rejected the chance to sign him, he's scored 45 goals in league and cup games for West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea. That's a damn sight more than our strikers have managed between them so I'd say he's made us look a bit daft.

You could argue he's played in systems that suit him The way we have set up over the years prior to this one wasn't condusivve to somebody scoring on a regular basis as we created very little I wouldn't read too much into that stat as regards us

No contest for me.

I couldn't agree more mate I was just pointing out we didn't create enough chances for a prolific striker When people came on here saying we needed a 15 ( etc etc ) goal a season striker they couldn't see that would never happen due to the minuscule amount of chances we created Things are thankfully changing

That's why people looking to do Fuller down by saying he was 'hardly prolific' annoy me - nobody was in that system.

Fuller wasn't prolific anywhere though, before you blame the system rob, Fuller was not a striker that would get you an abundance of goals, he would slot home some amazing ones though just never enough

Pretty much 1 in 2 for Preston. Even 1 in 3 for Southampton. 2 in 3 starts for Ipswich.
As far as 'blaming the system' goes, no striker under TP managed 20 in a season. In 10 years. Not a criticism per se as things were fine anyway and in the good times there was a decent share of goals throughout the side.

Crouch and Jones got 14 and 12 respectively in their first season's here - with the football not being that much better than last season, which we know was dire.
It was also not conducive to creating chances from open play - something we're doing with more regularity under Hughes.
Neither player looks capable of reaching that at the moment IMO.

He should have started that game, Mourinho fucked off. He nearly won them a penalty in that one and just the fact we turned him down and then poured scorn on him makes us look like pricks for eternity. Especially Dave "he won't be fit for months" Kemp.
