Obviously chuffed that we won to move into 10th but there were two real highlights for me.
First was the reactions of Cameron, Shawcross and Begovic when Pieters gifted them their goal. All 3 of them were in his ear lifting him when he was clearly gutted by his error.
Second and my favourite moment, was Pieters reaction when we got the winner.
He sprinted from left back to right wing to man hug Cameron for bailing him out of the shit. He was clearly chuffed to bits that his mistake hadn't cost his team a deserved win and he raced over to his mate to celebrate.
Great to see and they were two real highlights of the match for me.
Great spirit amongst the team and a really big win today. I'm chuffed to bits.

Absolutely right Dave - there was a definite team spirit on display there and that doesnt half give us something to build on !
...mind you trigger has a point too!

Indeed. He was absolutely dreadful though he did finish the half a little better.
Great substitution though. Hughes, to his credit, puts the team first and doesn't seem to have any favourites. If you play well, you keep your place and if you don't your position comes under threat.
Can't say fairer than that in my opinion

The way the players responded is telling me that Hughes is building a team spirit within the camp. Our football has a way to go yet, but part and parcel of a successful side is having players who will play for one another. Like you, dj1, I'm chuffed at what I saw today from the team. OS.

I would expect no less. ;-) Seriously though, he had a very good game. Cameron had a super game as well so all round I was pleased. I like nothing better than seeing players I've questioned have good performances

A real fighter who, whenever he's left out of the team, comes back better and stronger to win his place back. If Shawcross ever has to miss a game, Whelan, for me, should be our captain. He has been great since coming back into the team and he was excellent again yesterday.

Comes on as a sub, plays well, rightfully earns a starting spot in the next game, then is shit for 2 or 3 games before being dropped again. Hughes must resist the temptation to start him v Newcastle!

Hmmmm I know you do mate, hence my last comment about not playing him. I'm just messing! I'd go with Prestwich though in all honesty...Adam at home, Ireland away. I think N'zonzi is having a very good season. Some of the criticism he has taken this season has been very harsh. Yesterday was actually his worst game for a while. I blame his ridiculous orange boots though. He needs to go back to his usual black boots immediately!

He is a talented player but as a midfielder he is reliant on movement ahead of him to truly look like the beast of a player he can be. We don't have any usually hence it looks like he's playing within himself. With N'zonzi, I honestly think we are all a bit guilty of expecting too much from him at times.

Cameron had a super game as well so all round I was pleased. I like nothing better than seeing players I've questioned have good performances Crouch had up to 4 Villa players around him. snapping away at his heels for quite a lot of the game and was still able to show his skills with his feet. He also kept his cool adding to the frustration of the Villa defence He looks happier with a player being available for a short pass, let's hope he is not too isolated in our next 2 away games. What's more let's hope he stays and we buy another forward to play alongside him!

Davejonno - What about Marko 'I wouldn't know a good footballer if he slapped me in the face' Arnautovic. Are you still creaming at his wonderful technique and ability? He has ability. He is a talented footballer. He needs to apply himself and work harder to show what a good player he is or can be. His performance yesterday was unacceptable as was his commitment in making himself play through his woes. You are seemingly hyper sensitive about this comment of mine but if I remember rightly it started with the precursor of "some Stoke fans..." And wasn't aimed at anyone specifically. I stand by that comment. He is a talented footballer. Whether he chooses to use that talent to its maximum is another question entirely. It is also worth noting that my comments were made after the Cardiff game where he effectively contributed the only creativity we had in a game where he was rushed back from a hamstring injury. I have been critical of his performance yesterday and against Hull. Neither were anywhere near good enough!

N'Zonzi is our best CM, but as Dave said do we expect 2 much? He can't have a brilliant game every match, but ties things together quite well and his ability can only improve over time.
