Didn't anyone else think it was a shit header from Wilson that Pieters had to deal with? Yes it was but never mind 'eh, Wilson has been excellent at cb. Oh, I'm not disputing that, Wilson's been fine at CB. I just thought it was funny no one had picked him out for his contribution to their goal too. As Prestwich said though, in that wind, we should probably cut them both a bit of slack.

Whelan suits his current role perfectly.
Palacios can play there too & competition helps big time.

Obviously chuffed that we won to move into 10th but there were two real highlights for me. First was the reactions of Cameron, Shawcross and Begovic when Pieters gifted them their goal. All 3 of them were in his ear lifting him when he was clearly gutted by his error. Second and my favourite moment, was Pieters reaction when we got the winner. He sprinted from left back to right wing to man hug Cameron for bailing him out of the shit. He was clearly chuffed to bits that his mistake hadn't cost his team a deserved win and he raced over to his mate to celebrate. Great to see and they were two real highlights of the match for me. Great spirit amongst the team and a really big win today. I'm chuffed to bits. Totally agree Dave and I brought it up on the knotfm show tonight add Whelan to the list of people who went over to pieters to lift him. Great reaction by Erik to the 2nd goal he did indeed do what u say and is proof that we can get players off the continent with the right stuff.

As you know mate I've been trumpeting ( oo er ) Whelan for a long long time and always rammed home that it was the tactics that were causing him to get so much abuse from fans He now has options to pass too and it's reaping rewards and his constant reading of a game is excellent in the way he drops in to automatically cover players who are out of position...ie the full backs People will disagree but at £500k and SIX years later he has been one of our best ever signings Does he need replacing .....yeah of course he does but it's going to cost a lot of money to do it

N'Zonzi for me had a good game and I'd hate us to be without him. Remember what we paid for him folks. His ball retention is excellent and he can slow things down when needed. We need to add to the midfield mix we have as we miss a bit of pace in there and that bit of creativity which the redoubtable Whelan and the maverick Adam and Ireland don't quite offer. At times on Saturday we played some good stuff and Crouch's magic feet were a joy to see. If he had pace he'd be a world-beater! What most most heartening is how we improved in the second half and fought back from the disappointment of their equaliser. We also benefitted from the absence of Vlaar, Benteke and Agbongahlor so let's keep our feet on the ground.
