But he'd have some resale value at least and probably cost less in wages. How much do you think Leeds would want? £4 million tops I reckon. Is he worth a punt at this price?

I think Ross McCormack could do a similar job to Olic and give us a few more years service. You're comparing a 27 year old who after 10 years of professional football has still never played at a level higher than the championship with a 34 year old who's played at the very highest level including two champions league finals? On what basis do you think he could "do a similar job?"

Is he not bang in form at the minute? He's got 17 goals this season for a team that's 6th and battling for promotion, I think he'd cost a bit more than £4 million.

On what basis do you think he could "do a similar job?" I'm just putting it out there Plave. Olic has a fine pedigree but I'm not comfortable about someone of his age, no matter his experience, joining us. Pulis would have been strung up for less. McCormack has had bad luck with injuries which prevented a couple of moves to the Prem (albeit one was with Wigan.) You could take a look at Jordan Rhodes who some folk on here are crying out for, or Jay Rodriguez who went from scoring for a Burnley side in the Championship to the Saints and on to England. What about Ricky Lambert? I'm not saying McCormack is in any way a solution to our dilemma, but he's a 'wide forward' which Hughes seems to like and is a neat finisher. Therefore, he might fit the way we set up and be a foil for a frontline striker to. As I've said, I'm just fishing for comment based on a possible scenario.

Spot on Binndy. You can't just limit Yourself to one sort of transfer ie young with sell on value. Like they style of play and people (Higgi cough cough) not getting it, You can actually mix it up. It's stupid to tie Yourself to one thing, just because someone is old doesn't mean they should be ruled out. The mix needs to be right.

Bayern, I would agree in theory, but no-one really expects, or expected, us to be in the hunt for a 34 year old striker surely?

Where's the confirmation that we're after him?
No Carto report in my inbox. I highly doubt the validity of this story.

And no but after witnessing Walters again on Wednesday night it's a link I like. For 2 reasons; 1) If it's for the correct money and contract, I think Olic will be useful. 2) If he is being looked at to play as an inside forward from the right then it shows we're looking for them, we need one. As links go, I like it. More so than Ross McCormack, sorry!

I've seen a few people mention him and I know he's doing well (really well at the minute) but he's done well before and then gone on to the next season and done nothing.

McCormack is a player who could fit our style of play but I'm not necessarily touting him. I have very little idea as to who we'll buy and I'm expecting very little. That way I don't get disappointed. I do know that I'd rather him than Assaidi for instance, but thats a whole other debate.

BildWolfsburg or Stoke City: Olic has the choiceWill he stay - or is he going?
Oldie Ivica Olic (34/Contract expiring) finally has a new offer from VfL ??Wolfsburg
The striker said yesterday: "We have spoken. The offer is good, I am satisfied. But I do not know if I stay"
The Croat could sign for one year with options.
But English club Stoke City also offers.
Olic: "It is of course a great chance to end the career again against Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester to play. I need some time to decide"
Hopefully for the VfL.

Always impressed me and would be prefect for the position Walters is now in , never stops running , guess it depends on how much we are prepared to spend on a younger player , not much if recent windows are anything to go on

Suppose you've got to ask whether he'd be a player we were REALLY interested in if he wasn't available on a Bosman? Slippery slope should cheapness become the key determinant of our targets? He'd be almost 35 before he'd kick a ball for us. Sentinel

Not that I've watching him or the bundeslga much but if Wolfsberg want to give him a new contract, surely he's good enough for our squad?

With Odemwingie up top as well our average age wouldn't look too clever. I really can't see this.

old players with next to no resale value are not a problem providing : 1: they cost you nothing/very little in the 1st place & 2: they are any good & contribute to the team
good job Waddo isn't in charge anymore this board would explode with outrage at the average age of the squad

Certainly, Olic was a class performer a few years ago. Providing he is fit and hungry to play, he would be great for a year or so.

Latest is Oli? has been offered a contract extension from Wolfsburg, 1+1 year, but he says he`d always dreamt of playing in Premiership. I think he might be on his way to Stoke.
Concerning how much he can help Stoke...he can. He`ll work his arse off no matter what his age is, he`ll leave his heart out there. I think he`ll be starting for us at WC in Brasil this summer, and he`ll be a great addition for Stoke, especially if he is a freebee.
