It not Pisces is it mate? I know thy boast of some awards but I have not been impressed by them......Richardsons near Asda are not too bad , a little variable at times but when they are good they are not good, I haven't tried the Highbury one

The sign of a good fish and chip shop, or restaurant for that matter, is a big queue and a high turnover. In that respect the chip shop at The Milehouse seems to be the busiest in the Potteries, the queue always spills out onto the forecourt at teatimes. The owner is the guy who personally handles the fish frying, and he likes to talk about his product and make recommendations. Fish is a premium ingredient these days. Another little secret gem of a chippy is Goodees in Newcastle, opposite the Magistrates Courts. Surprisingly good, they seem to take great care with what they do, they are the scientists of Potteries fish and chip shops. All their fish is fresh, cooked specifically to order and I really enjoy their pale battered Cod with slightly well done chips, it must be said. Definitely worth a try. The Potteries used to be home to a very high high number of rank fish and chips shops, although customers demand much better quality these days. There's nothing worse than battered fish that's been sitting under a lamp for hours and the colour of teak. Fish has to be treated with care and respect from the moment it is caught to the time it hits the plate. Done right fish and chips can be spectacular. Got it right..add the blue Octopus to that and its NOH.

The fish at Highbury is class but the chips are gash, I think they buy them cheap for match days but it seems a proper old school chippy with the owners living room in the back. Just noticed your name is Bisphampotter so ya from that end, the mrs is originally from Fleetwood so im up there quite a bit.

Battered or bread crumbed cooked to order. Nice. Clayton Fish Bar (or something like that) Windermere road Clayton are bob on. Queuing round the block. Shaws in 'Castle, chips sausage and (thick) gravy..... lovely!

For less than 4 squid? Is the fish any good? Just had that in there and it's all pure white boneless Fisk in that batter. They put you the fish on then you help yourself to all the other stuff and as much as you like and then keep going up to put what you want on, apart from another fish of course. Still bloated now.

Was the bar open? The car park was rammed but strangely enough there wasn't one person at the bar. A man then walked into the bar and said 'ouch'.

Four and a half quid buys you a lot of spuds! £5-50 buys a 25Kg bag of maris pipers.

Nothing beats a chippy tea, with loads of bread and butter and washed down with a cup of tea. Heaven. And why does tea taste so much better with fish and chips and/or a full english?? Sent from my ST25i using proboards The former because you are pissed. The latter because you are hungover. That is tea...a drink for all conditions.

Fish and Chips are the past, the future is bright, the future is Kebab Meat ( Donner & Chicken ) & Chips.....Doused in mayo....And as cheap as chips, well as cheap as chips & mixed meat... you should be ashamed of yourself theres a cracking chippy in bangkok just round the corner from soi cowboy. and closer to home theres a very good chippy on soi lenkke. i will be sampling these wares soon!! The Offshore chippy in 23 is 'old school' good but is now the preserve of fat bastard 'old world' drunks. Which is why I go there quite often since I live just around the corner on Asoke. The more health conscious go to the Kiwi place on soi 11. Went there when it first opened and thought it was expensive shite..not really shite but definitely expensive and sanitised. At Offshore chippy you get the authentic chippy deal complete with grease and smoke and 'the bits' at half the price of soi 11....I am salivating now as I type this. p.s. the wife (thai) loves them also...she still talks about the cod she got one night in 2005 from Sammy Lowe's in Smallthorne.

I use to love the Goldfish Bowl in Goodson Street, Hanley (round the back of BHS and M&S). They were absolutely fantastic when I was a kid. I worked for a summer job over the road one summer. Tried to resist every lunch time - but when they started the fryers going - about 11am, I just couldn't resist. Went back a few years back - took my Mrs and we weren't impressed. Is it still going? Yes its still there but under a new name. I know what you mean they were fantastic no idea what its like now though.
