That's the words coming out of Aston Villa. My pal big fan there and has a few contacts. Lets see if he goes the states I read somewhere that he was retiring. Hughes got the best out of him at Man C. If he can get the best out of him again well have one he'll of a player on our hands. Thought he'd already retired judging from his non-displays.

A complete waste of a salary. We should go no-where near, he's finished.

What a load of shit, how can he be 'finished' at 26?!?
Ok he`s a bit of an oddball, he was utter quality for city for a season or so and then he did lose his way.....
It would be taking a chance and i agree him and Adam as a defensive pairing sends shudders down my spine BUT i assume he would cost next to nothing in salary, hes still got plenty of years in him and id prefer the prospect of watching Stephen Ireland then Glen Whelan week in week out..
So for me - take a chance on him.

Not finished, but not good enough for the Prem, he had one good season where he looked easily good enough to be at a top 6/4 team, since then hes only showed he's not.

I agree with Bayern.
Surely it is not possible to switch off for two or three seasons and suddenly find the form, and particularly the desire to get back to what he was.
Seems to me he is a spoilt brat who earned far to much too soon and lost sight of what was needed to maintain his level of performance.
He gave up on his Country and left Man C and just seemed to lose interest

Agree he hasn`t set the world on fire but to be fair to him the Villa manager does have a bit of a reputation for being a prick to work for and i don`t think SI has had much of a chance to shine under him.
I reckon coming back to MH would be like coming home for Ireland - a bit of nurturing and he really could come good again - as i say would you honestly prefer to watch
Whelan
or
Ireland
week in week out?
He wouldn`t cost much and wouldn`t be able to demand too much of a salary due to the lack of interest in him.
I understand people`s views but for me I think with MH and the low money involved it would be a good move for him and us.

Ireland's career has ended - the next contribution he will make anywhere is to finally accept that himself and retire. He is total laughing stock at Villa.

I'd choose Whelan too Maybe "every second of every minute of every single game we will ever play" is a bit far though

I haven`t been privy to Ireland`s performance albeit only 13 last season and i reckon if you or me were the Villa manager we may have player both him and Bent in more games... but obviously these type of players are in Paul Lambert's plans and hence they are looking to get rid. Just reading on a Villa blog that Ireland has shown glimpses of his form but not much and i think the major reasons Villa fans hate him is he is on around £65k a week and was used in a deal which saw Milner move the other way. I guess i remember him as the player from City a couple of seasons ago who produced so much.... Can we really say a player is finished at 26 and hasn`t got a chance to rekindle his form? Matty springs to mind? I guess time will tell on this one.

I completely agree with Bayern.
He's a one season wonder (two if you're being kind). The form he produced that season was a result of him making himself stupendously fit to the point he made himself ill. His technical ability is mediocre at best, he simply isn't of sufficient quality.

i think it would be best for Ireland to drop down a league to rekindle his desire for the game and to bring him back up to the player he once was for that season

This rumour takes me back to how I felt when we signed Jerome, a bit dismayed at the time and utterly disappointed but over time I got to like Jerome to a point when I was utterly disappointed in his continual non selection. Things do change let's remember that at least.
My question is who is he currently better than in our midfield........Adam? Nzonzi? Whelan?Wilson? New Spanish chap? Cuvelier? Cameron? Maybe he's a replacement for WP

Just because he has hit a serious downer since being at Villa doesnt mean that he is finished surely?!
There is a good player in there that needs the right coaching. Clearly Paul Lambert doesn't rate him because he isn't under the age of 22.
Who is to say that MH cannot work with him?
If we signed Ireland, I'd trust our manager totally.

Desire and day-in, day-out professionalism are huge parts of what makes a top player - and this lad's got none. He's hit the cash jackpot and mentally switched off.
It's all very well having talent, but that's only a fraction of what you need as he's proved time and time again.
Steer well clear.
