Once we sign these players I wonder if stan will say 'I always said stoke would do well'
Can't change your mind like you do on the radio stan once you've put it In print. Hope the powers that be have read all these papers tipping us for the drop.
one thing that gives me hope of signings is a quote early on in the sentinel describing john coates' new role as 'major investor john coates'

I can see why to be honest.
We've consistently been one the poorest teams in the league for 18 months with an inability to score goals.
As yet MH hasn't addressed that issue so as it stands it's a fair assumption.
I'm working on the principal that Hughes will sort this issue by way of signing new players so if you were to ask the same pundits again next month it may be a different story.

I'm more confident of staying up now than I was with pulis. I think we will have a good season with mark hughes, who I think WILL prove he was the right choice for the job.

Shock horror, Stoke to go down, again Some of you girlies need to grow some and get a grip. You may or may have not noticed that you as a fan have little or no influence as to how the team performs thus 'actions' are meaningless Opinion is valid though so given that we have sacked Pulis (love him or loathe him he kept us in this league playing a a 'unique' style of football), that we are adopting a similar style to everyone else and that we (currently) have a weaker squad than we finished an appalling end to last season in which we performed terribly, scoring the fewest amount of goals in all four divisions I hardly think that people who see us potential relegation candidates are 'girly testicless lightweights' of perhaps you don't have the ability to articulate an alternative argument without resorting to childish name calling ?

These prediction pieces would make more sense in early September. But he can only really deal in the here and now, and not really guess at what the next 3 weeks will bring. And, as things stand, I'd have us down amongst the dead men. Toothless attacks and drastic style changes aren't a happy marriage. But obviously (well hopefully!) the plan is to do some serious spending out wide and up front. And if we get the right quality in there, we'll give ourselves a real shout at doing okay. But, the problem is, most teams outside Palace and Hull think they've got the quality to push for top 10 this season!

Fuck Collymore, fuck the press and fuck anyone who's written off LMH and the Stoke players before a ball has been kicked this season. If everyone has got us at the bottom then there's only way to go. Fuck 'em. And I want us to be last on MOTD every week. I don't care. Fuck 'em. Vis Unita Fortior!!!! yes!

There isn't half some big girl blousery on this board.
New manager, new ideas. What happened to giving him some time?
We haven't even played a competitive game yet and some have already thrown the towel in.
As for new signings, last time I checked there was still 3 weeks to go in the transfer window.
How's about we give the new manager a bit of time and support?
Things aren't half as bad as some are making out.

Would the press have us the the bottom three if we had the same management structure as last year I think not; but we have a new manager who had one of the biggest nightmares at QPR of any manager in the EPL history, so it's not surprising we are one of the favourites to go down, LMH has a lot to prove to everyone and I hope he does. 14th as a minimum for me as a target but I'll take 17th now at the moment from what I've read on here. I'll wait and see at my first game of the season next week.

I don't know about relegation it seems Stan has bought into the theory that Stoke have one type of player and it needs to be Pulisball to survive the season. Hopefully others will believe this too and we catch a good few off guard with our new style.
Bit harsh from Stan I reckon although I do normalkly agree with a lot he says.
3 players short of a top 10 or 12 place for me, they are going to make all the difference, I can see us struggling if we fail to get three good attackers, all three of which capable of creating & scoring goals, it's no good relying soley on your strikers to score goals the team needs to chip in and right now apart from our strikers nobody else scores, you could argue our strikers arn't convincing aswell.

Stan was always " a look how far you've come " sort of stoke lover , I think he normally talks good sense . It's not always about the style of play its about keeping up with the teams in your bit of the league , most of whom have spent money on some cracking players

Doesn't matter how brilliant the goalkeeper, how solid the back four, how, errrr, reasonably OK the midfield. If we have no-one who can score, and we don't, we will not get points. It's all about the Coates family. It's hard to think they'd want a prize asset to go down the tubes, but they better get a move on because if we languish around the bottom of the table for too long, it's going to be very tough to scramble back up.

I think I remember reading somewhere that Hughes' teams are notorious slow-starters. A slow start is guaranteed. Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal and WHU away are 4 of the first 5 fixtures. Miss out on the 3 points v Palace at home and we will be staring up from the bottom of the table after 5 games.

Can understand Colly tbf, Daily Star are fucking stupid though.
From all the predictions i've read, most seem to have us between 16-18, which at the moment is probably a fair evaluation as so much is unknown and there is a significant change both at managerial/backroom level and in terms of playing style.

Guaranteed top 10 as Hughes has produced in every full season he's managed.
Ridiculous? Not as ridiculous as the complete writing off of our players' and manager's abilities despite both more than holding their own in several Premier League campaigns.
Hull and Palace will struggle in my opinion. Neither have made signings of any note. There are also several clubs who have got carried away with the new TV money and signed too many players. At least one of those will struggle as the players find it hard to gel.
We COULD go down. But now Everton have appointed the most overrated manager ever so could 12 other teams. If you're this nervous then you need to find another club to support, because barring a new Billionaire owner it'll always be the same in this money distorted competition.

Does it matter what the so called experts think, half of them tip England to win the world cup every four years and are clearly in the job of writing sensational headlines.
We do need to sort the goal drought, and as I said before we need a marquee signing to show the Intent of the board, and I mean 10 million not 3 we are in the premiership, but it's not transfer deadline day yet is it and we are still Stoke City which means we have to wait for players to NOT get their fantasy transfer and get the Reality of a premiership deal with Stoke. Be honest which good striker has Stoke City as his dream destination, exactly no one so the lure of bacon and cheese oatcakes must be given time to take effect.

I wouldn't take much notice of his opinion, he can talk a load of crap at times.I think we will struggle through lack of goals but our defence will keep us up particularly if we keep Begovic.I would say 15th with Hull, Palace, Sunderland , Norwich & WBA below us.

Yea 10th -> 15th is about right IMO, but he does talk a load of crap doesn't he. First off there is no way PC will sack LMH willy nilly unless they have some kind of massive personal fallout nor is LMH "employing Pulis' system" either. Why are we so misinterpreted by the media at large? Very poor journalism really.

This is why I say other than the training ground, we really are poor off it in many things, too many to mention. We've gone from a team who the media had us as never getting relegated, to one of the favourites. We had fans packing the stadium to no buzz about the place. Corners filled In and media buildings built to unsold season tickets and still the garden shed surrounded by more weeds than alan Titchmarsh could handle. we as a club just don't know how to drive things off the pitch and many things are championship tin pot. Absolutely bang on the money.

Stan's view shows commonsense - after all, we didn't score last year and we haven't remedied any part of our attack thus far.
Some will say that the only way to address that is to battle (a la Pulis) but he's gone and rightly so. MH has a tough job and, at the moment, we have no cutting edge. So, the logical outcome would be relegation.
But, we do have a team of battlers - still, and look what happened when people wrote SCFC off in season 1. So, I say let everyone write us off - and let the Britannia welcome each and everyone of them, in the only way that we know how.
Nobody likes us - do we care?
