Would we get a work permit? He hasn't played for Senegal for 12 months as far as I can see.

Why wouldn't it be big news though? Germany is one of the top leagues in the world and he's had a fantastic season and a half there. In terms of strikers who are remotely attractable for a Stoke-type club, he fits the bill as well as anyone surely? If someone else signed him though fm, I don't think I'd raise an eyebrow too high. Not saying that it wouldn't turn out great but I'd say, 'isn't that that bloke who was pretty shit at Blackburn?'. A good German record but 'big news'? Not for me. Yeah. I know what you're saying, Sheikh. But I think all signings for us will have to have a bit of doubt or baggage attached. All things considered, he fits the bill for me. Bundesliga is a tougher league than Holland, and Altidore and Bony have gone for a bomb. I think anyone with a sexier, baggage-free profile with his record over the last 18 months would be going to a bigger club. He could potentially fit us like a glove.

Nixon calls every story he writes a 'tale'. He used that word in about 80% of his tweets, to be fair

This suggestion sounds daft but I thought this earlier when Man City were on SSN buying Negredo

That would be a huge one. Fee, wages...the whole lot! It's also a big load of bollocks aswell.

'Tale' certainly isn't the most reassuring of terms. No, it reeks of Remy... But perhaps we really do things differently now

Fair points mate but I think Nixon is over egging it. I'd be happy enough with the signing but I wouldn't expect to see a queue for season tickets the next morning!

Dzeko would have his pick of Europe surely? He's not the best but he's next in line imo.

I can see both sides of the argument.
See merits in both sheikh and FMs points of view.
Not overly excited by this one.

First question mark on the Hughes reign for me if it's Diouf and the fee is huge for a player in the last year of his contract

Bundesliga fansiteMame Biram Diouf – Hannover 96The Senegalese striker has been a coup signing for Mirko Slomka’s side since arriving from Manchester United just over 12 months ago for a fee reported to be in the region of 1.75m€. Having notched 10 goals in 15 appearances in his first season and 15 goals in 27 appearances so far this season, Diouf has definitely not gone unnoticed (as evidenced by the growing sales of his Prostar shirt) and there’s no doubt that he’s currently one of the hottest properties in the league.
Pros: Diouf is still young at 25 years of age but has got Bundesliga experience. His goal tally is impressive and he’s a fast player, which no doubt would fit in with Dortmund’s fast style of play, making him, Reus, Kuba and Götze a lethal and fast attacking quartet. Also his price wouldn’t be prohibitive. Valued at 7.5m€ by Transfermarkt, Hannover would be looking to make around 10m€ for their star striker. Also, with his contract running out in June 2014, Hannover might want to cash in before it’s too late.
Cons: Diouf came to Manchester United with a lot of promise from Norwegian side FK Molde but failed to make an impression at Old Trafford. True, he wasn’t given many chances by Sir Alex Ferguson but perhaps that was due of his inability to cope with the pressure that comes when playing for a big club. Whether he could handle the pressure of being the main attacking man for a big club like Dortmund is perhaps one of the few cons in Diouf’s potential transfer.
