Mine was Lloret de Mar with my parents when I was 15. Went on coach cos my mum had a fear of flying (even though she'd never flown before). Took us 36 fucking hours to get there cos there was port strikes in Calais so we had to go Dover to Zeebrugge and then a detour through Belgium. Good holiday though as there was a problem with our original hotel which meant we were moved to one of the best hotels in Lloret. Also, the 1990 World Cup was on at the time. Only took 24 hours to get back home as well at the end of our holiday!

Ibiza 1988 went to the co-op travel in Tunstall asked for a lively rocking place with plenty of things to do and the wankers sent me to Portinax at the top end of the island with 2 hotels and fuck all else,i even tried to get an early flight home.
They did give me free tickets to some night club and Sam Fox was there and planned to do this big exit in the pool only for that Sabrina bird to do it first and Sam refused to perform.
Still a fucking shit holiday and told them wankers at the co-op and got barred.

Quite a nice little beach at Lloret ....the sand is a little gritty ...but a nice little bay ...we were stuck there in 2010 for almost a week after the Icelandic Vollcano erupted ..it was the only place on the coast we could find an empty hotel

The crossing can be notoriously unpredictable...rough. I've done it in June with hale showers and force 9 winds , although in September you should be fine...more settled weather. Churchill suffered the same dilemma when deciding to invade France....

A Rhineland wine tasting holiday with my virtually teetotal parents back in 1975. I was 14. My mum had always wanted to go to Germany and it was a cheap enough deal to enable a family of four to stay for a week abroad, and they passed on most of the wine and brandy on offer. Anyway, my main memory was being turned into a vomit monster by German white wine. Was not able to touch the stuff for about 20 years after.

Very nice indeed ....we are going to Normandy for a week at the beginning of September , a few miles outside Caen ..praying for good weather Just outside a little place called Furneaux...perhaps you know it ? You have probably already been but if you haven't then allow yourself to stray into Brittany. Dinan is especially nice and not far from where you have planned on staying. Yes mate its beautiful in Brittany , we stayed there a few years ago quite near Dinan , a place just out side Lamballe , I think it was called

I went there in 1992 and thought it was a right dump. Crumbling infrastructure, scruffy, huge chunks of masonry just lying all over the place, and my hire car kept breaking down because of 'adulterated fuel'. Food was unimpressive and I picked up at least two ear infections from the swimming pool. Compared to Crete and Cyprus, it came a very poor third and I am not inclined to return. I am led to believe by its afficianados that a lot of EC dosh has been pourted in since, and it's a lot cleaner and more modernised. Is this true?

I am led to believe by its afficianados that a lot of EC dosh has been pourted in since, and it's a lot cleaner and more modernised. Is this true? Yes I first went there in 79 .....the basic character is still the same, that will never change, but I agree with you that it was poor in a lot of respects ...the roads for the most have vastly improved , the ' old bangers from the 60's ' that were on them have gone, all nice new shiny cars now, even the ancient Malta buses have gone now replaced by a nice new fleet of vehicles run by Arriva no less !....It has come along way on the EC money in recent years , it is indeed cleaner and more modern than it used to be ....possibly it's not yet up there with Crete and Cyprus , after all they have always been geared up to tourism while its only in recent years that the Maltese have realised that they were missing out on it as a major industry . At the end of the day I suppose its either somewhere you love or loathe , there isn't really much middle ground , even with the improvements of recent years and hopefully more in the future , if you didnt like it twenty years ago its unlikely to have changed enough for you to alter your view on it ...first impressions do tend to have a lasting effect concerning holiday destinations
