Geoof we have just spent £10M on Peter Crouch, why not spend this on a player who will serve the club for years to come?

Geoff you go on about finance & then you support a bloke who decided to call time on our foreigen scouting network in favour of his over priced british based Joe Bloggs players. Oh come on..... 3 consecutive seasons of being in the bottom 40% of the league.... there have always been at least 6 teams shitter than us. let's celebrate!!!

I cringed with embarrassment at that quote. He's clearly asked someone to find him something to suggest this season has been a 'Success'. You know what Tone if I was your PR I would sit you down and say look you are fast losing any respect that the supporters and probably owners have for you and it will begin to shadow your actual genuine success of your tenure. Why not man up give an honest appraisal of a dreadful season and outline how you will put things right. I guarantee that supporters will give you major credit for that. But of course he won't.

What next....
"Our record versus Scunthorpe United over the last 50 years has been outstanding. We've won every single game we've played against them. It's an incredible record".

There was a day when signing foreign players was a big gamble but such is the decline of the standard of the Premiership these foreign players are no more of a gamble than the over priced british based players and that theory is backed up by the sudden influx of foreign 'nobodies' coming to the Prem and being an instant success.

I know we did but that doesn't make the stat wrong does it? If I read your description right in your OP then it is a stat about being consistently not awful season on season: From your OP: "I've just been told that's the first time we've finished outside the bottom six in the top flight for five seasons on the bounce. It's a new achievement for us as a football club and a fantastic record." Gods - you have to go back a bit but we were no lower than 13th for 8 years between 1888 and 1896 1896/1897 1 English First Division 1 13th/16 30 8 3 4 30 18 3 0 12 18 41 11 3 16 48 59 25 1895/1896 1 English First Division 1 6th/16 30 12 0 3 43 11 3 0 12 13 36 15 0 15 56 47 30 1894/1895 1 English First Division 1 14th/16 30 7 3 5 35 25 2 3 10 15 42 9 6 15 50 67 24 1893/1894 1 English First Division 1 11th/16 30 13 1 1 45 17 0 2 13 20 62 13 3 14 65 79 29 1892/1893 1 English First Division 1 7th/16 30 8 2 5 33 16 4 3 8 25 32 12 5 13 58 48 29 1891/1892 1 English Football League 1 13th/14 26 5 0 8 19 19 0 4 9 19 42 5 4 17 38 61 14 No league table entry in database for 1890/1891 1889/1890 1 English Football League 1 12th/12 22 2 3 6 18 20 1 1 9 9 49 3 4 15 27 69 10 1888/1889 1 English Football League 1 12th/12 22 3 4 4 15 18 1 0 10 11 33 4 4 14 26 51 12 Look how far we've come!

I thought it an odd interview and he was almost taking the piss with this random stat and the PC quote - not in an offensive way mind (may have abeen a nervous attempt at humour), but clearly a man under pressure and one who's not sure what the future holds for him.......I'm convinced he doesn't want to go, but it may well be out of his hands.......we shall see.....
Again, we need to show a bit more respect and less vitriol to the man IMHO, who has brought us to a place where I never thought I'd see us in my lifetime......and this is not an "in" statement, just a lets be reasonable here plea......

Now call me a cynic .....but it's not exactly something to shout about is it ?? And the reason it's a little known club record is 'cos some bright spark thought it up last night .. We ended the season mid table ...(somehow) ..now iI call that being average , not a little known club record ...Kinda makes us look a bit desperate to "big ourselves up"..
...Although weirdly I am looking forward to next little known stat/record ....it' reminds me of Ripley's "believe it or not " museum .... maybe we could call it...........Stoke City ...." I shit you not "statistic........

Horrible, snidey, bitter, self serving ....! He's known since January he's going and it shows in the teams performance. He's probably moaned his bag off about it to anyone who'll listen, even the players. It would explain a lot.
The party's got to be over for him, his friends and family members. Just GO!

Triffic.

Far from bringing up some statistic to gloss over what's been a pretty miserable season - and most certainly an appalling second half of the season - TP would have garnered more respect (from me at least) if he'd held his hands up and said that he was disappointed with how we'd performed since Christmas. We were on 29 points on New Year's Day and a top ten finish was certainly within our grasp. Instead, he claims that we've improved on last season because we finished a place higher despite the fact we've gained three points less, won two fewer games and have once again bored the pants off everyone to achieve our aim of surviving in this league.
On top of that we were knocked out of the League Cup by a team two divisions lower than us, just about scraped through the FA Cup 3rd round tie and then bent over and allowed Man City to knock us out of the FA Cup on our ground with barely a whimper. And the line about it "always being an honour to play Manchester City" was just about the lowest point of our season.
The vast majority of the players we've brought into the club haven't made much of an impact and the signing of Michael Owen has been an embarrassment.
I'm not sure how anyone can expect us to genuinely improve and "really, really push on" (TP's words not mine) when the manager seems so ambivalent about the direction his team is heading in. He seems more concerned about continually talking about the past than focusing on the future.

What is the record for finishes outside the bottom 5? Or the bottom 7?
What is the record for consecutive seasons with less league goals than games? I imagine we are pretty close to breaking that one.

Number of goals scored away from home and points gained. 16 – 2008/09 = 10 pts 10 – 2009/10 = 20 pts 15 – 2010/11 = 12 pts 11 – 2011/12 = 16 pts 13 – 2012/13 = 14 pts It seems the more goals you score the less points you get. In Pulis we trust.

It's a new achievement for us as a football club and a fantastic record." For hand it to him, he knows how to spin a purse out of a sow's ear More ridiculous than Arsenal celebrating 4th like they'd won the flipping Champions League. & that took some beating
