Having been on a salary for 21 years my entire working life I do not understand hourly wage.

Contracting works best for me.
Assuming the choice is for the same job, whether hourly paid or salary depends on a combination of factors
1. The difference between the effective hourly rate in the salary option (yearly salary / 52 weeks / minimum hours per week per your contract) and the hourly rate offered
2. Is overtime paid or not on a 35 hour week an hour over per day bumps up your gross pay by something like 14%
3. How many hours overtime you normally work and whether overtime is guarenteed (does the overtime x the hourly rate make hourly paid option more than the salary)
Your pension and any redundancy payout would normally be based on your basic salary only though.

All I've ever known is hourly. It works ok for me, but I'd rather be on contract because I'd be making more in my line of work (chef).

Rough assessment
Hourly paid workers tend to earn less per hour, but will get paid overtime
Salaries - tend to be management and above, = paid more, but no overtime
Ever since me first proper job I've got a salary

As it had no validity towards anything, just a mere boost then.
Well done

I have done both, overtime was a buzz in my youth I thought it was great and took all I could, been on a salary for the last 20 years, it evens out to be honest, higher salary but still put the hours in when needed. the hardest thing I found when changing all those years ago was going from a weekly wage to a monthly wage it took about a year to get to grips with it, I just couldn't make the money last a month. lol

I'm salaried and get paid extra for overtime.
Can do £1,000 on a good Saturday but can equally do £60 on another.
Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Which is better? Discuss. It really has never bothered me how I get paid , but I've always wanted to do something that I really enjoy . It took a very long time for that opportunity to arrive and now it has , it's like being on permanent holiday. I WORK HARD ..over 80 hours a week and some weeks don't even have the time to pay any money into the bank , but I don't consider it as work . I've never been motivated by wealth , houses , cars or material possessions as I consider happiness and health as the most important things to enjoy. I've never appreciated 'designer clothes' posh houses and fast cars like the vast majority seek to achieve and I'll admit I am the exception to the rule. It can be quite amusing and enlightening watching the City commuters coming home in their posh cars with 'stressed out' expressions on their faces while you wait along side them at traffic lights. Would I swap them.?... Nah... Would I fuck. I've been there , done that and I never enjoyed it. I don't want to know what £45,000 of car depreciation under my arse feels like. I don't want to exchange details of my rental property in the Dordogne with some boring arse from the golf club or Conservative club.... I'd rather talk to my fucking dog....and I'm serious...! But I digress.... What was the question...? mumf

The only difference between the dog and Farage is that one talks a good tale , and the other wags a good tail...
