It's far from dillusional given he has roots here in the NW and wants to stay in the Premier League.
And 'a project' - I think that's exactly what Stoke could be if PC wants to have one last fling establishing us as a top 10 team.
Personally I think it makes far more sense than some 'has been/ never was' as I'm pretty sure TP's departure was one of the hardest things that a man in Peter Coates comfortable shoes has ever done.

If we got him I truly think he'd be fantastic for the club and take us to the next level.

Cant see him coming just to bring on the youth in the club. There has to be a promise of cash, and probably lots of it.

You don't get rid of a manager like Tony Pulis unless you have someone that guarantees more success than here previously. Martinez, di Matteo, and others mentioned do not. As a businessman, I think Coates could only make this call for Rafa. You don't make a change like this unless you have someone lined up. HHmmmmmm...I like your logic. Fingers crossed

Personally I think it makes far more sense than some 'has been/ never was' as I'm pretty sure TP's departure was one of the hardest things that a man in Peter Coates comfortable shoes has ever done. I think you may have a point. We are working on the assumption that Benitez is solely interested in money. I'm sure he's got plenty of that and is more than comfortable. Maybe he wants a challenge, something that is more satisfying than the stress and expectation of the bigger clubs in the Premiership or Europe. There are potential pluses about coming to Stoke: - There's a Chairman and Board who have a track record of patience and preferring stability to axing managers willy nilly.
- The Stoke fans will not be as expectant as those at Liverpool, Chelsea etc. Top ten finishes, more attractive football and regular serious bids for silverware will probably satisfy us.
- The Stoke fans have a reputation for being passionate, getting behind their team, and I'm sure he'd anticipate support and patience. He must have been impressed how difficult coming to the Britannia was as an opposition manager.
- If he wants a project he'll have an Academy to bring players through over a period of time, but will still get financial backing from the Board for players he thinks can improve the team. He will get time.
- If he lives in the North West it is ideal.
- We might not pay what Chelsea and Liverpool etc can pay but he will still be handsomely rewarded.
- There's actually a few decent players at Stoke to form a basis of a good squad, they were either not used enough or played out of position.
If Coates has real ambition Rafa must be on the short shortlist. I think too for Coates to make the very difficult decision (some would say gamble) to axe his friend Pulis, there must be someone significantly better lined up to come in. Could be Rafa!

Rafa's a European powerhouse with clubs galore interested in his services.
I just can't see it at Stoke but would love to be wrong...

There's no way Martin O'Neill should be sitting at 16's - he would have to be a prime candidate in Coates' eyes...

Is this the same Peter Coates that a majority stood outside the Vic for.......calling for him to resign?

Coates has always been a fan of Redknapp's. He offered him the Stoke job in 1989 I believe.

Benitez would come for the right deal and available spend - all a question of PCs ambition. If he wants to settle for a nonentity like Hughes then he's chnaged little in terms of our prospects and it will still be a case of 40 point safety first in which case we may just as well have kept TP

Benitez would be the clear choice of ambition - its up to the club to make it an attractive enough proposition. He's been there and done it - even this season with a level of abuse from Chelseas own supporters and some reluctant key players he still delivered champions league football at a canter and the Europa cup

Rafa has spent a lot of time down at the training ground in recent years, he lives local and he is our best opportunity in my opinion. And in difficult circumstances we would be sure of 6 points against Chelsea next year

I don't doubt that we would try and get him. I just highly doubt he would come. He could easily join a top European club. He may say he wants to stay in England. But if the only option is a stoke and you've got a psg knocking, there is no decision to be made really.

Stoke fans want Rafa more than any other manager. We would welcome him and be loyal to him. I think he could build stoke into a top 8 team. We have a great youth academy which just needs direction. Our team needs a bit of work, but 3 seasons could see a major change in our club.
