I wish to see a change of manager in summer, but I have no reason to even suspect that what he was saying was anything but the truth.I admire the man for sticking to his principles and believing in himself and his obvious compassion for others. I fall out with his tactics not the man.

Anyone else find it quite ironic that Coates calls himself a socialist? He's made his money in bet 365 primarily by seizing on the vulnerability of others. I have little sympathy for gamblers if that's what they want to do but find Coates' liberal claims somewhat hysterical. He is the epitome of the champagne socialist. Many of the great institutions in this country were created by rich men who had social consciences, Rowntree, Cadbury, Wedgwood etc. Being a socialist did not then and does not now equate to being a Labour supporter or any other political faction for that matter.

It depends on how you define socialism , I don't find it at all ironic , everyone who is successful in business is not automatically a capitalist or indeed a "champagne socialist" as you call him.He has for many years supported the labour party (cue , what has supporting Labour got to do with socialism)and provides employment for many local people and has provided the funds for the team I have supported all my life to gain Premier league status. What have you done apart from riding on a high horse?.

Point taken but Coates is a big Labour supporter. He's donated hundreds of thousands to the party in the past. Surely a true socialist would act in the best interests of people/ society. Running the countries largest gambling company is quite the contrary.

Pretty naive, ignorant post grandad. I don't claim to be a fucking socialist or labour supporter. The line of business im in has pretty woeful ethics but im not claiming anything else am I? If you read the article you would see Coates is a socialist AND a labour supporter (which we already know). Unless Pulis is lying about that. The point is, running a gambling business which survives and succeeds on the mental flaws of the people is hardly an ethical achievement is it?

Running a successful football club and making you happy as a result doesn't make him an ethically sound businessman either does it grandad?

I am neither naive nor ignorant, to call people who may enjoy the odd flutter ( which are the vast majority of Bet 365s clientele) mentally flawed is both naivity and ignorance in the extreme.

The Telegraph and the Sky article are both excellent.
Great to see such well written and interesting insights into our manager.

Yes, I would think he makes far more money on those that have the occasional flutter and those who are controlled regular gamblers than he does from those with addictions.

RAF. Making facts up? Please expand. Reading and posting on this board is my prerogative, unless you are its custodian. I've expanded two or three times on threads where you have done it only for you to go missing when challenged. If you can't remember the utter shit and lies you post I suggest you just check your history. And of course it'a a free message board and it's your prerogative to post on it, as it's your prerogative to throw your toys out of your cot and flounce off like some handbag swinging woman promising never to return.
