Just been flicking through the internet showing my little boy some Ricardo Fuller clips...What a player he was.
I love the bloke but even I forget just how good he was sometimes. Goals the slip from the memory...his two away at Blackpool, the beauty against Pompey at home an unbelievable goal against Sheffield Wednesday I think it was plus the really memorable ones, Wolves away, Brum at Home, West Ham away.
The goals he made (Salif at Pompey, Mama at Burnley, Whelan at Spurs) as well as the goals he scored.
What a player. My little lad loves him as well and is currently running round in his away shirt singing Ricardo Fuller's is City's Number 10.
First time I have smiled about something Stoke related for quite some time.

Of all his awesome goals,my favourite was the goal against Villa in our first season up. Simply stunning piece of skill and the finish to match from a tight angle. One of the best players I've seen in a Stoke shirt in my 30 years watching us.

The likes of which we will never see again. this Very true, although I won't blame Pulis for all his faults for this. Finding a like for like replacement for Ric is a nigh on impossible task. I miss Ric so much.. I'm sure some arsehole will be on soon saying, he's gone, he's not a legend blah blah

I thought the capped one did him proud by playing him on the wing in his final game at the Brit

Super Ric! I have been watching Stoke since 1955....and RF is easily the best player of the last 30 years to wear the red n white stripes. Who can forget the excitement he generated and the skills he possessed? Who could forget the appalling way he was treated by TP in his final days with us?

He got the ball, an air of anticipation spread through the ground. He had magic in those feet. We sadly miss that now. What a player he was for us.

Lets not forget that it was Tony Pulis who was brave enough to take the gamble on Ric and his "glass knees", something the great 'arry shied away from, that allowed us to see such a charismatic player. TP gets a lot of (deserved) stick so only fair to give him praise when due. He gave RF10 a lot of leeway at times, thankfully

Ric was one of TP's greatest signings for sure... if not the best.

Fuller did a good job for us,but a lot of people on this board slag TP off but I think he deserves credit for the signing ok Fuller ,as I remember the usual crap was wrote see we are signing another crock, Pullis you don't know what your doing.Best signing ever know Mattews,Big John,Banks,Huddy,Stein,Sherron,Chamberlain,Micky Thomas,Salmonds, and many more were better signings, and non off them hit there own captain or got sent off because of cowardly actions.

When we got promoted, I looked at the squad and wondered who would make the grade in the top division. Nash, Cort and Cresswell, for example, were ones who I thought we would need to replace as soon as possible. Lawrence was one who I wasn't sure about. The big question, though, was whether the mysterious, miraculous Ricardo Fuller would make the grade.
He didn't make the grade and he didn't adapt to the Premier League. He flourished here and was actually even better than he was in the Championship. Sure, he could only beat two or three players at a time instead of four or five, but he seemed to gain something else, an extra edge.
I miss him, a lot.

Ric did beat a few players, lift the crowd but what let him down was what he got paid to do score goals, after the first season in the Prem his scoring record was poor.

Compared to all those other prolific strikers in the Pulis era. Ric was our greatest creative threat from open play and won us countless dead balls as well. We looked shit without him.

I think letting Ric go and not replacing him (would that even be possible?) could be the single biggest factor in Pulis' downfall. With Ric in the team, as dire as we might be playing, you always knew that something special and unexpected might happen, you always had that germ of hope that he would grag us from despair to elation... all that vanished in a puff of smoke when he left and watching the team without him is near as damn it intolerable. He is a genius and there is no other player like him. I just hope he comes to the Brit as a visiting player so we can show him how much we love him one last time...

Why is it a load of rubbish exactly? From the early 1980s name a player who has made a bigger impact on this club at this level than Ricardo Fuller. I loved Mark Stein to bits and Mark Chamberlain for an all to brief period was magicial, but for me mjb2 is right, Ricardo is easily the best player of the last 30 years.

I have a theory about Ric and our current predicament. Not something I'm one hundred percent sure about but just an idea that intuitively makes sense. We all knew we would miss the bloke but it might be something more than that. As well has having the physical attributes to lead the line in a Pulis team - height, pace, power - consider this.
Pulisball = predictable. Ricardo Fuller = unpredictable
Pulisball = defensive, methodical. Ricardo Fuller = attacking, flair.
Pulisball = smashing the door down. Ricardo Fuller = picking the lock.
Pulisball = reliant on teamwork. Ricardo Fuller = individual class.
I don't think it was simply a case that Ric was a great player and someone who we enjoyed watching all the more so in the absence of other skillful players. I think an argument could be made that Ricardo Fuller made Pulisball work so well because in many ways he was its antithesis. He therefore somewhat paradoxically formed an essential part of the system. When he began to fade from the picture - midway through that brilliant season - we didn't immediately seem to miss him because so many other players suddenly stumbled upon a fantastic run of form. Especially Jonny Walters. But I think a big part of our struggles since then, in terms of failing to create chances and put opponents under really sustained pressure, might have a lot to do with the absence of Ric.

The reason Ric has been one of our better players in the last 30 years,is because most of the last 30 years we have not been very good.If we had been in the top flight for the last 30 years we would not have signed Ric.Remember no top flight team has ever signed him ot tried to sign him.Very good championship player, average Prem player, now a championship player in a poor side goals scored ?
