I was driving back home last night and listening to Talksport with Stan Collymore it quickly became apparent that we really aren't alone with some of our grumbles.
Norwich, West Ham and Sunderland fans were all grumbling about their teams lack of ambition away from home and how their teams seemingly just sat back and waited for the inevitable defeat in the hope that they might well nick something from the game.
Then, right out of the blue, Big Fat Sam said that West Ham were outstanding against Villa and that the only thing to complain about was the lack of points.
I watched the game and West Ham played for 10 minutes, after going 2-0 down. They were shite and my mind immediately drifted to countless TP post match interviews.
Seems that we aren't alone with our negativity of approach and not alone in wanting our teams to just "have a go" regardless of the opposition.
Very interesting it was and made my journey home go a bit quicker.

It's surprising that the increasingly outstanding Swansea aside, how quickly the table has settled into a traditional top 7 or 8. A couple of the relegation teams aside, the rest of the league (particularly our middle third) has been in pretty abysmal form since the turn of the year. IF we can get our act together with a pretty benign run in, a top ten finish should really be in sight.

The away form has to improve for that.

Stop the press!!! It's not just Stoke shocker!!!!! ;D I had a good study of the table over the weekend and I was surprised at how well we had done away from home. We have taken at least a point in more games than we have lost. Nice one. I don't think the league is abysmal...that is a cop out. There is no need for it to be any better or worse than at any other time since the money has been ploughing in to it. I think it's a pretty damn hard one and that is why it can be so attritional at times....not just in our games.

Considering we give most teams half a season head start, not to mention a 60 minute head start in every game, I have concluded that you, MCF, are right.
TP is a god and is doing a quite amazing job!
Pulis In!
We're 10th FFS!

On 606 last nigh there was a West Ham lad moning about their current fortunes. His main gripe was will Alladyce! Poor style of play, going away from home hoping to draw 0-0, no atmosphere at home, long therm fans staying away etc, etc. If you changed the name for 'Pulis' you could have copied and pasted the call, stuck it on Praise and Grumble, and no one would have known the difference! He's out of contract at the end of the season

pretty ungrateful cunts then aren't they I admire your loyalty.. but our football is pretty shite at the minute, it is very hard to watch our midfield constantly pass back to Shawcross to hoof it up to Crouch.

In fairness mate nobody forces you to go and watch it. If it made me as unhappy as it seems to make you I wouldn't bother. Not a dig by the way just how I see it.

I wonder if the fans of those clubs have sanctimonious pricks telling them to be grateful etc etc.
I'll say it again - the systematic lowering of fans expectations is the biggest con in football. It saddens me that football fans in general have fallen for it hook line and sinker.
For the money that is swilling around in football it's nothing short of a scandal.

Agreed mate. It is just that it seems to make some genuinely unhappy. If I felt that bad I don't think I would go. It wouldn't mean I didn't support Stoke anymore just that I didn't want to be unhappy going.

Maybe the thing they/we have in common is the knowledge they/we are never going to win the league so why not have a bit of fun trying to finish between 10-15th.
This Premiership ain't what it was cracked up to be.

The Sunderland forum would be an entertaining read, especially when you look at the money they've spent over the last few years, they've managed to get through £172M since they came up with Keane

Fuck's sake landof... you make it sound so black and white. I don't like Pulis, wouldn't shed a tear if he left but would be happy if he adopted the style that most people I speak to would like to see.
Why should I go the Vale when Stoke is MY team and I'm guessing for longer than you. Some of us actually have lives outside of football but it is the occassion when we all get together so if it's all the same I'll keep to the routine that has served me well for over 40 years.
Why on earth would I go Arsenal last week when it was odds on we would shut up shop. Perhaps for the social, which by the way I would have gone on if we had been at Barnet if my good friends were going.

I personally think it would be suicide for a manager to go against his instincts and what he's proved to be good at.
Before he explored some kind of football utopia that he just wouldn't believe in then I'm quite sure it would be better for him to fuck off.

I fancy we will overtake them before this campaign is over. That's not the point, they have got to 4 points ahead of us playing a much less turgid brand of football, it's not being asked that we play fancy tappy football, I don't want to see that myself, just a Stoke side who have a go and set up to win, not set up not to lose, passing back to our defenders to smash it up field to our tallest players. Go 1-0 up and not sit on it for the rest of the match at home but whilst they are more open due to the need to attack stick some more in the net, press them out of the game completely.
