And even the magnificent Swansea are only 4 points ahead of us. I fancy we will overtake them before this campaign is over. That's not the point, they have got to 4 points ahead of us playing a much less turgid brand of football, it's not being asked that we play fancy tappy football, I don't want to see that myself, just a Stoke side who have a go and set up to win, not set up not to lose, passing back to our defenders to smash it up field to our tallest players. Go 1-0 up and not sit on it for the rest of the match at home but whilst they are more open due to the need to attack stick some more in the net, press them out of the game completely. The "magnificent" Swansea are also in a cup final after beating both Chelsea and Liverpool away from home. Still, I'm sure next season will result in certain relegation and generally poor football for the Swans since they don't have the squad to be playing 137 Europa Cup games.

I personally think it would be suicide for a manager to go against his instincts and what he's proved to be good at. Before he explored some kind of football utopia that he just wouldn't believe in then I'm quite sure it would be better for him to fuck off. Why doesn't the manager apply that logic to the players he buys? He buys players who have proved to be good at playing a particular way and then forces them to play in another way. Adam can't play in the hole, Crouch can't play as a lone striker, Owen can't play at all.
