Doesn't sound a lot of love in the Stoke cottage at the minute.

I'm not listening, Jamo - in what respect?
Purse strings tightened?
Bit of a war with the Cartwright faction?

Very true Jamo and doesn't sound to chuffed about the transfer activity the other night.

He sounded very downbeat and disappointed about the window.
Said a lot of work went into it but it didn't happen, when asked about why he wanted to change the subject.

"Disappointed" and "worried" about the transfer window..."but let's talk about football Nige..."
No, Tony, let's talk about why you're worried....

You get the sense that the purse strings have definitely been tightened
This 'playing too open' stuff just doesn't wash though. He has had 5 seasons to sign proper full backs and has players such as Palacios not even warming the bench.
Sorry but not good enough Tony

Very true Jamo and doesn't sound to chuffed about the transfer activity the other night. Neither did Kemp yesterday. He sounded absolutely baffled that no others had been sealed. Obviously some kind of inter-camp warfare at some level, whether it be with this new Cartwright fella, Scholes' negotiating skills or "the family"?

He shouldn't always wait until the final seconds of the window...........he treats it like it's an e-bay auction. It doesn't work on the whole but we just keep on keeping on with this approach.

If, as his refusal to answer the question implied, the funds hadnt been made available for signings this is madness by the club. Why risk a huge income next season for a relatively small outlay now??

He had a month :/ not a single day. Bingo! we have a winner! You leave your scouting and enquiries til the last week in January Tone, and this is what you'll get. Quite why that disappoints him, I don't know. It's patently obviously very risky and sometimes you'll win and sometimes you won't!

I didnt like his last comment saying "lets hope i can keep it going"
Whats that all about? Its not a usuall type comment from TP. Doesnt sound very confident at the moment.

Next thing you know, Peter Coates says 'will somebody rid me of this turbulent manager' and suddenly Tony Scholes and Mark Coates are running away to the continent on a murder charge.

It does sound like the purse strings were tightened.
To be fair, you can't blame PC.
It's not a never ending well of cash that he can dip into.
Sometimes you have to be held accountable for the money spent.

What about the previous money he's wasted over the last 4/5 seasons?
Does he not stop to think hat he could have brought in had he had his head screwed on?
Kitson, Tuncay, Palacios, Sonko, Olofinjana, Adam and Crouch cost a combined total of £39M.
Not one of them improved our "system" and moved us on.

Not trusted to spend PC's cash any more then by the looks of it!
The Crouch/Palacios deal might have done the trick.

This isn't just about Tony (although he is more responsbile than anyone else). This is about Coates, the whole management of the club etc... they really need to rethink their transfer strategy.
Hopefully this will prove to them that you can't expect to do all your business in the last few hours of the window?

It certainly backs up DJ's post about a power struggle behind the scenes. What post was that Jamo? Think it was yesterday, Sarge. Dave said there was a battle going on between Tone and his boys against Scholes and Cartwright.

"Disappointed" and "worried" about the transfer window..."but let's talk about football Nige..." No, Tony, let's talk about why you're worried.... Kemp has already said why hasn't he? Because the squad was weakened.

Also talking explicitly about avoiding relegation and nothing else.
PS I've clearly missed something here, who's Cartwright?

He sounded very downbeat and disappointed about the window. Said a lot of work went into it but it didn't happen, when asked about why he wanted to change the subject. I think that it would have been very unprofessional to give out specific details. Swansea may have been very disappointed not to get Jones - TP held on to him because we couldn't get a replacement. I believe our target players were in a similar situation. If we remain in the Premiership then the financial rewards are considerable and we will be able to fund better quality players. Not too much activity in this window for many clubs

Not trusted to spend PC's cash any more then by the looks of it! The Crouch/Palacios deal might have done the trick. Looking that way. And that was the main plus point of their apparently cosy relationship. Maybe Denise is calling the shots now?
