"We were delighted to bring in the two players that we have, but we haven't addressed some areas."
"You have to keep freshening up the squad in each transfer window. We've missed the boat a little this time around."
"Brek Shea trained yesterday but obviously he's way short of where the other lads are at."
"We identified Brek as a player to join the core group of young players that we have here."
"The manager's done very well on Deadline Day, but we're not doing somersaults because we're short in other areas."
"The last two trips to the Emirates have probably been our best efforts, but it is a very difficult place to go."
"No players that have been in the team recently are struggling. Hopefully Marc Wilson will have a reserve game next week."
"In a football season, you play plenty of games and you always have your highs and lows. It's like Wall Street."
"If you start doing things that have brought you success, then you will start to leak goals. We'll be working on that."
"Jack Butland's one of the biggest up-and-coming goalkeepers in the country. It's a coup for us to get him here."
"We were pretty close to bringing in a couple more players, but it didn't happen so we just have to cope with it."

Good news about Wilson. Hopefully he'll be back in 2-3 weeks.
Sounds like Shea is miles off, though, as you'd expect.
Maybe on the bench in a month?

The message there to me is they weren't able to bring in the quality they were hoping for other than the two great signings we've made.

Does make you wonder why we've used the January transfer window to sign players for the future. Surely it's for players that will improve your squad for the run in??? We could probably have left these two signings for the summer couldn't we?

Missed the boat - more like a bloody cruise liner!
The one thing the capped one always got right was the back line. This window he has even managed to weaken that - way to go!
Sounds like Shea is miles off, so yet again one of our key areas of weakness, the wing, remains just that
If Shawcross or Huth get injured we are knackered
Given what is at stake this year, this is one hell of a gamble

But surely the priority should have been to improve the squad right now

We seem to have spent the last few days of the window sorting those two deals out instead of signings that we need now.

I despair, why havent we explored this before the window even opens, and agreed deals. He says you get more value at the end of a window, what about before it even opens. Im sorry but if he's telling me there was not two full backs suitable for Stoke out there at very reasonable prices he's either not looking hard enough for his own agenda or simply not being straightforward.

I'm sure he's looking hard. You surely do get better value at the end of the window as players are more willing to sign as the window draws shut. He probably didn't see the quality he wants and prefers to stick with what he has. He must be confident we have enough.

We could probably have left these two signings for the summer couldn't we? ?? the Butland signing is a perfect January transfer - it solves our immediate problem, means we can get as much as we can for Begovic and stops either Begovic or Sorenson holding the club to ransom at the end of the season. if we'd left it until the summer we wouldn't have got him - you do know who else was in for him don't you?

There is looking hard and five years without a proper full back , some things just do not add up, hopefully the two signings made will do well for us , right age and look to be good professionals and both seem a decent price.
Very scary defensively though, in addition to no proper full backs we are surprisingly for TP short of Centre Halves although I guess Cameron could fill in at a push there.
The Reading game is pivotal , a loss there and we could easily get dragged downwards considering how we have played since Boxing Day

I'm not knocking the transfer at all but with Kemps assessment of him being one for the future I don't really think he'll be our number 1 in 6 months will he? So if Bego is going ans Sorro leaves then we need another experienced keeper in the summer anyway. And what immediate problem does it solve anyway?

The management talk of the transfer window as though it is just a day or two at the end of January. How long have we been short in one or two areas,as they put it? To say their attitude is frustrating is putting it very mildly.

What has happened to this new scouting regime ? I thought that the idea was to identify targets during the season and then go for them in the transfer window not wait until the last minute and wonder what to do !!! Surely there are good players in Africa or South America who would jump at the chance of Premier League football ? If not there then at least we should be looking on the continent. Cheers, Adie

Adie the new scouting regime will have the same problems as the old one.Pulis does not trust anyone else or their advice. He has to go and see the player himself before they are signed and he simply cannot be in enough places at the same time to do that efficiently. He refuses to accept anyone else's advice, not matter how senior or experienced they are.I wonder why he employs senior scouts when he will not trust their judgement.

Morning! Don't shoot the messenger, Kemp is just a mouthpiece of the regime. He is to Pulis what Comical Ali was to Saadam Hussein. "Everything is under control, we don't need a left-back!"
