My mate sold his and his sons season tickets for £225 i thought he wanted the money, but when i asked him why he said "He would rather stream the games and save £550+ and have the advantage of turning the shit off without any matchday cost"
His he been a twat? or a realist?

Probably a realist. It is a free world and people are allowed to make decisions that they feel right for them. With the cost of programmes, drinks and possibly food, he will be saving himself a fortune.

On the face of it (and we only have the bare bones of the story) if he isn't in financial dire straights which you say he isn't, I suspect he can't be that much of a Stokie if he's giving up on the team already.
We aren't even in November and haven't lost at home in the league in our opening four games.
It seems a bizarre thing to do and suggests they haven't had season tickets for many years and if he thinks it's bad now he either wasn't there or had his eyes shut in years gone by.
If he is a big Stokie then I suggest he's being rather rash and will end up regretting it.
Still a very odd thing to do even though it is his prerogative to do as he sees fit.

Do you really think it's only the ones that have started to support Stoke since promotion that don't like the football on offer?

We're not even into moustache growing season and he's given up already. Clearly he wasn't watching in the late 70's and mid to late 80's when tashes were semi fashionable. Good bye fella, hope your son is not too upset!

Some people will support come what may, and some will go to games when the team are doing well or are playing a top side.
It's a business based on entertainment and if the guy has decided he's not getting VFM, he has every right to vote with his feet.

Perhaps he is just skint but doesn't want to tell his "mates" as much?
You don't have to go to the matches to be a fan.

It's entireley his decision: I can't believe some of the nob end vitriol that people pour out against the guy.As for comments like "look at our results this season" well I have, and its won one lost 2 drawn 5 - hardly tree ripping up stuff is it ( poor old Norwich turned over Arsenal!). Goal scoring is still a problem, and we have an expensive midfielder playing in a position that would be better suited to the ex England international sitting on the bench - yet this square peg in round hole philosophy is something that we have endured for nearly 5 years now. There are some positives this year, but to win you need to score goals -TP still favours the clean sheet against scoring a goal.Arsenalat home was a bore fest, closely matched by Sunderland - on the basis that the majority of fans go to the home games, and do not follow away games, would 3 goals at home (in 4 games) really float your boat?

None of the stuff you've highlighted are reasons not to go though. They're reasons to moan to your mates but definitely not reasons to stop attending .

Football is becoming more and more expensive. If somebody would prefer to spend that money on other things then that's their choice.
£500 could pay off a few outstanding bills or clear off a chunk of a loan. Everybody is different.

He's said it's not about money though just the performances on the pitch. Surely you of all people don't agree with fans turning their backs on Tony and his football?

My experience of watching Stoke on streams reminds me of trying to crack one off by watching porn on dial up. It gets the job done but there is something deeply unsatisfactory about it.
Going to the match in comparison is a full on 160MB broadband wankathon.

We will never know the full reason will we? As jester and wardrobe monster say above, things may be a bit tight and he doesn't want to tell people at work about it.
If I know I'm going to be skint for the next month I don't tell anybody about it.
