On the Knots fm interview perhaps im reading to much into it..but he singles out Kightly and Adam as players who are offering us quality but said nothing of Walters. I really think theres a chance TP might actually drop JW on Saturday. cant see it bud, especially with us being away, however i do think v qpr we may see jon on the bench

also gave away 2 free-kicks in dangerous positions due to his clumsy tacking back
He didnt touch the ball today for the first 15 minutes when he was on the wing. Improved slightly after that when he was up top with Crouch. It really proves he should NEVER, EVER be played on the wing again

Right, as for today Jon contributed virtually nothing until AFTER we scored.
I'm one who wants to see him given a rest as in that first hour he may as well have been sat next to me.
However once we scored and most players heads went up their arses Jon DID come into his own by chasing down lost causes and holding the ball up well.
To me that's his role (or should be) and he's good at it against the better teams and when we get our noses in front.
When we're looking for a goal though (against teams such as QPR, Norwich and Sunderland) I don't see much benefit in him starting.
Well done for your last 30 minutes though, Jon.

I'd have to agree that he did improve towards the end by making a couple of decent passes and holding the ball up but that is nowhere near the standard that a striker should be. I think it would've made sense to bring on Jerome to try and get a second goal as we didn't look comfortable with that 1 goal advantage. Time after time though, Walters for the main part is totally ineffective. The least you can expect from an attacker is to do SOMETHING memorable e.g. a piece of skill to get past a defender, a good shot on goal etc but reflecting on this and most other games I can't think of him doing anything like that. He ran about, occasionally got the ball, gave away silly fouls and produced nothing towards goal.

Just an update
One (dubious) goal in 37 Premier League games
Next Monday will be exactly a year to the day since he scored against QPR and the run started

An update, an unexpected but welcome update.
TWO goals in 38 Premier League games
A year to the day since the run started he doubles his tally.
Another Johnny Walters stat is he is now the joint top scorer for the club out of the current squad, alongside one Mama Sidibe on 26 goals.

Bloody good finish, anonymous thereafter. Hopefully it'll give the lad some confidence.

Granted the away end offers one of the worst views of football in the country, but I thought Walters had a very good first half, even if you exclude his goal from your considerations.
Second half he was pitiful and their goal came from his total inability to do anything remotely skillful when his back was to goal on the edge of their box.
There is no bigger critic of Walters than me but he is more worthy of his starting place than Crouch.

That's a better return than Pennant. Do we judge wingers on goals now, only this sort of criticism hasn't been seen for our other non scoring, and now non playing in the championship, winger.

I thought overall he was poor.
But the finish made a mockery of suggestions that he isn't technically good enough.
He can do it, just not on a regular enough basis.

I can be technically good every now and again, it doesn't mean I'm good technically mind. Just that I pulled it off in that moment. It was a good finish but one swallow doesn't make a summer.
