Call me uncool but one of my favourite guitar solos is Tony Peluso's melodic solo on The Carpenters 'Goodbye to Love'. Indeed not. It's very good

prince at the end is immense That's the one I immediately thought of too. Prince was before my time and never really got it to be honest. First time watched this I was thinking 'what the fuck is Prince even doing here?' and then it was 'oh...oh!' - he's on the stage with serious talent and absolutely rips the piss! Still no idea where that guitar goes at the end when he just chucks it.

I've seen a video somewhere where it was shot from a different angle and it shows a roadie or security guard catching it at the front of the stage. But must admit it left me wondering for ages.

Comfortably Numb? can't disagree with that at all. But coming in a close second is the 'epic' solo on Neil Young's 'Like a Hurricane'. Great call. After all these years, Like A Hurricane still completely floors me, the most incredible, devinely beautiful, soulful, guitar solo ever. The best version out there imho ... Good shout, but I think Neil's peak came in the first minute of 'Cortez the Killer', either on Yuma or Live Rust: As always, it sounds as if it's all going to fall to bits at any moment. However...nothing beats anything by Hendrix, especially live.

I've got three all from seeing live luckily enough. If I could've seen any other live, it'd probably be that Prince one.
Nels Cline with Wilco on Impossible Germany - just gets better and better, then when the other guitar melodies come back in at the end it's perfect:
Jennifer Batten on Michael Jackon's Beat It:
Bryan Josh with Mostly Autumn on Shrinking Violet:
Actually, I somehow forgot my actual favourite. Highway Star by Ritchie Blackmore and Deep Purple! Bryan Josh above is heavily influenced by Blackmore and David Gilmour.

i'm a lover of a good guitar solo so decided to make a thread that can contain the very best, mind-blowingly spine tingling ones of all time. i'll start with this, at 4:30 in the video. pink floyd, comfortably numb. enjoy it! it's my favourite solo of all time! This is actually my favourite song of all time Lyrically, musically, the whole lot. If these 3 were to put their differences behind them and tour it's one of the few acts that I would get a ticket for regardless of the cost.

and while you can't help but admire the guitar wankery of axemen like Van Halen, Vai etc, there's just something about the less is more approach that's always attracted me to a great piece of guitar work. By chance, Savoy Brown were the very first live band I saw and I've always loved Stan Webb's guitar work and vocals.
