It's funny having their words rammed down their throats by just two words....'Succesful Pulis'.
Now that is something that wasn't expected by some...
Fcuking great, way to go Tony...

More the football & his mentality than the man. After years of shite lower league football we arrive in the Prem with the opportunity to test ourselves against the big boys, Pulis often settles for a point before a ball is kicked and we still lose. If we are to lose we should be losing trying to win. EDIT: Thank you Lakeland Potter. Agree with certain elements of some of your comments Yogi. But you do come across as very angry and bitter also, hence the shit that comes your way. Maybe if you were more balanced on occasions that would help. I can't get my head around the blatant hatred you have for TP, it's bordering on obsession marra. You must have been encouraged by the teams performance on Sat, but always look on the dark side. To the original poster: I think your comments are well intentioned and hope you have thick skin mucka!!

Don't worry big balls, I won't post on here half as much anymore, I've had enough of the shit I get off people anyway I just hope that IF we are relegated and/or when people wise up to the fact he's wasted a shit load of money and hasn't got the mentality to ever be positive about his team no matter who he signs you'll remember I told you so. As a Stoke supporter I have watched Stoke in the lower leagues I've not jumped on the bandwagon and I see being in the Premiership as a chance to test ourselves against these bigger teams and relish taking them on on their own turf, afterall that is why we are supposed to be here, arn't we? And that is exactly what we are doing. And I am still enjoying the whole experience. Not always happy with how we play, but I am much "happier" being disappointed with some of our performances in the Prem than in any other league!! So I suppose you could say I'm a happy clapper!!! being disappointed with our performances in the Prem than in any other league... Brilliant quote...........How times have changed.

Have to disagree with the OP, unless he is referring to ExiledStokie when in which case he needs to learn to laugh at some people.
As for my personal stance on the manager, well...
He has done very well for Stoke as Stoke has for him.
Would another manager have done the same with Stoke? Possibly yes, 3 managers do it every season and not all with the backing that TP has received from Coates.
Would another manager have kept us up? Yes, probably. £90 million separates us from the others who have come and gone in our time in the Prem.
Has he used the money wisely? No, not at all in my opinion it has been ill invested and we are certainly not £90million better than the team that came up.
Will I shout for his head? I never would as supporters just do not do that in my opinion.
Will I support him whilst he stays our manager? Absolutely and I reserve the right to moan about the things that I disagree with on here with other likeminded supposedly PHWs.
Do I feel we would be better off with another manager? This is a tough one for me personally. I’ll reserve my judgement and give him time to see what he does with the team in the next 10 games. If nothing changes and he keeps on making the stupid decisions that I can’t see sense in then maybe he has done all he can for us.
HOWEVER! IF Coates has spent all he is going to spend on Stoke in large transfer fees then TP would be good to have around because I think he could keep us up on a shoestring.
However if Coates wants to do it through youth development and the occasional subsidy on the odd established player then TP needs to go as I don’t think he has that ability in his locker or nature.

You must also remember that other clubs have spent fortunes this summer, particularly those in and around us, so this year will be tougher than ever!
That is the gospel according to TP and I for one, can't doubt a man with such legendary status.
In TP we trust!

And as for his public comments on the teams we are going to be playing I honestly believe that he has got it spot on! I'm sure he is saying something completely different to the players behind closed doors! I'm sure the we, we, we we stuff comes in the dressing room. And this is reinforced by his public pronouncements after we have played poorly - I cannot remember him ever really publicly criticizing/slating the team or players publicly. (Dohh - I can't even edit a mistake without making a mistake!!! )

Read more: oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=Potters&thread=198891&page=2#3527644#ixzz25PWzodulI don't know perhaps he does relish these games and he sees the challenge being to nullify their strengths as he does not believe that we have the ability to "make a game of it" playing on their terms. He is obviously a far more cautious man than most of his detractors are! And, in the final analysis, his job and the club's immediate survival at this level is dependent on the number of points we accumulate through the season - not on the quality or otherwise of the football we play. (And to be honest there are many times that I feel that we are unfairly crticised - plenty of times when it IS fair though!)

I've been a Stoke fan since the late 60's and have seen us play wonderful football and total dross and seen us play at Wembley and in some of the worst shit holes in professional football but I can HONESTLY say that in all of that time I have never seen such mindnumbingly tedious and one dimensional football as Pulis served up first time he was here and as he served in the final 4 months of last season. It is because I love Stoke so much that I do actually care if we try and win games. Only under Pulis have I ever seen Stoke win games and gone home bored absolutely shitless.
Hopefully the arrival of Adam and N'Zonzi are all part of a move to help us retain the ball but the long standing problem at full back will sabotage that aim if we don't address it. But what is really needed is for Pulis to recognise that he has spent more money than many of his counterparts, has had the chance to put his team in place and that if he still feels that he has to "big up" the opposition and not take on opposition teams looking to win games that it may be a reflection of his ability rather than the false ceiling that he places on the club.

He does need to recognise that and I think you are right about the reflection of his ability. I don't think Pulis wouldn't want to alter the football for the better but it's more a case of he does not know how too, he's also himself stated that he's been proving people wrong for 25 years. What he means is he's been the underdog for all of this time and with it he has always played the same way. He won't be at all comfortable if he decides to change the style of play to something he has never done before, so even if he did and we were beaten he'd be straight back to his comfort blanket. Also, if we are to lose it is better trying to win and lose than hoping and setting up not to get beat and lose. It's called pride isn't it.

Hi I have been a regular reader of this board over many years, and have lived through the bad years of being a Stoke supporter and taking the rough with the smooth. I feel compelled to say a few words to the anti Pulis brigade. This forum can be used as a vehicle to vent frustrations as to the way we play and the way we deal with winning and losing, it should not be a personal vendetta against either the manager the chairman or the players. Just lately I have been amazed at the negativity and the back biting from so called Stoke supporters who are slating the manager in a derogative manner. OK criticising is fine and promotes healthy debates but not in a way which is offensive and borders on slander. I can only assume that the anti Pulis brigade which have slated him since his arrival were not around in the dark days of the 80s when we were changing managers almost every season. I have been priveliged to be a Stoke supporter all my life, my first game was in 1959, so I guess you can work out that I have seen many comings and goings in this time. Please get behind the team and SUPPORT them through the good and the bad times, Tony Pulis has done wonders for our club, and Peter Coates has put his money where his mouth is, give them both the respect they deserve, and yes criticise them and have your say but PLEASE do not make it into a personal rant. BE LOYAL BE PROUD BE STOKE DAVE I don't buy into the "Anti Pulis" label for a starter. With a few exceptions most people want to debate the methods employed on the pitch and the medium/long term health of the club under the manager's direction. Most have never met the bloke and wouldn't know if he is the most genuine bloke on the planet or a two faced duplicitous twat and I guess most wouldn't care. It's not a personal thing for the vast majority; it's what happens at the club and most specifically what happens on the pitch that is causing an increasing amount of frustration. It might be more accurate to describe the unrest as "anti - anti football" when describing opinion that is concerned by our team's approach to games of football. Generally the people who try and pass this disappointment and concern off as a "vendetta" or attempt to personalise the disquiet as something to do with not liking Pulis have the most flimsy arguments to offer to explain why they are not concerned with such things as our half a season of relegation form results, lowest in the country goalscoring exploits and negative don't lose at all costs approach etc etc Some of course will debate the issues and are more at ease with the current status of the team than others. I have to say that the number of people able to offer anything better than to personalise the issues to a love or hate the manager and "get behind him" rallying call are diminishing the longer this piss poor (for an expensive squad) run of results and dismal performance levels carries on. Equally as true is that there is a small amount of people who are abusive. These posts are removed as regualrly as spotted and I have not personally spotted anything approaching slandour. The former has had a warning issued as the manager should be respected whilst firmly criticised when appropriate (often of late). The latter is not acceptable and bans would be issued. I guess you threw that in as emotive substance. I have personally never met any supporter who does anything but get behind the team. It is a smoke screen to tie this in with the criticism of the manager's policies and tactics. It's a post that I have seen on countless occasions. Well meant but confusing the criticism with a personal issue and with support for the club and the team. I suggest most would identify themselves as supporters of Stoke City and Stoke City is not Tony Pulis or any other manager that comes along while we are all still breathing. Personally speaking I only care about the club and the team and if the bloke who is well rewarded for looking after the football side isn't doing it as i like then i feel very comfortable with criticising his methods without feeling it compromises my support for the club. I believe that is the intention and motivation for the vast majority of the people who have also lived through thin and thinner in equal measures to yourself. They really don't require pleas to get behind anything. I guess in short I'm trying to tell you the disappointed folk aren't going to shut up until the problems they perceive to exist are sorted. Letting the manager know the current situation is for me unacceptable and I believe the vast majority ofthe criticism is widely motivated by a love the club not an imaginary anti Pulis claptrap agenda.

Letting the manager know the current situation is for me unacceptable and I believe the vast majority ofthe criticism is widely motivated by a love the club not an imaginary anti Pulis claptrap agenda. despite some our recent differences Mark i have to say this is one of the most spot on posts i've read in a hell of a long time!!! as you rightly point out "Rimmers" and "PHWs" don't really exist (with certain exceptions as you say)....if TP were to orchestrate a team that won back to back Prem titles and a Champions league then EVERYONE would be championing him on here no question- even, i imagine, if we were to employ the same brand of football that we do now....likewise if he had us bottom of the table with just our current 3 points in March then we ALL would be clamouring for him to be replaced because we all have common love and that is the CLUB, not the chairman, not the players, not the manager but SCFC! it this "Brand" of football that has become the problem though;no one disputes it worked for us in terms of getting here and consolidating our place in the Prem but now we HAVE consolidated then we simply MUST move on as this brand is no longer providing a means to move on. we all know that we won't win the Prem title and therefore unless we try to evolve to become as competitive as we can be then there is very little point in us even entering the competition year after year as the only possibility left is stagnation and then inevitable relegation (it may not be straight away but it WILL happen as other clubs around us DO strengthen and evolve) no one person is bigger than the club (that favourite old addage managers love to spurt out) but that includes the management themselves. we can show gratitude for what they have done so far but that does in no way excuse them for current inadequacies, mistakes and problems that they have created and quite simply just not put right as yet. personally i think that TP has far more in his locker that just taking a mediocre side and over achieving with them as he did with us. i think he does have the ability to take us forward but he needs to start doing it soon or we could end up in serious trouble.1 win in 14 league games is the kind of run that any other Prem manager would be shitting himself about in terms of job security; we all know this won't happen under PC but it doesn't mean TP can rest on his laurels and take it easy. if we do end up in a relegation battle then there are other directors that WILL want their say and there is only so long TP can fight them all off if they start gunning for him.if that DOES happen then i'm pretty sure that 99% of the fans will thank him for what he's done and start to get behind the new manager but only as long as that manager can achieve things too..that's how it works with every club and every manager. we are a fickle bunch us fans but most importantly we are people who want to see the club doing well; it's all very good being happy that we're just in the Prem in the first place and saying "Remeber where we came from" but if we take that attitude then in 5 years time we'll be sitting there asking "Where we came from" again....only this time the answer will be "The Premiership" while we sit in mid-table in the Championship!

I haven't posted or even read this board in a long time, because it is frankly a shit experience. There is a seriously disproportionate amount of total whoppers on here and it damages your perception of Stoke as a team and as supporters. If this board actually represented us as a whole, we would be predominantly a group of whiney arseholes, which thankfully isn't the case in reality.
What you are seeing on here is what you see in many internet communities. Anonymous people who are saying shit that would get them knocked out in the pub but gets them seen on a message board. People with ten thousands posts of negative drivel because it gets the most reaction out of people that care about something. They are normally sad lonely people who need to make an impact on an Internet community because they can't make an impact on a real one.
The danger is, when these people get enough of a voice and influence that it bleeds into the real world. Evidence of this happening on Saturday. The season we turn on the manager and hound him out, is the season we get relegated. This is both inevitable and a certainty. Sad really. Worryingly this board will probably be the start of that process. I hope these people are happy when they get their wish.
