Hi I have been a regular reader of this board over many years, and have lived through the bad years of being a Stoke supporter and taking the rough with the smooth. I feel compelled to say a few words to the anti Pulis brigade. This forum can be used as a vehicle to vent frustrations as to the way we play and the way we deal with winning and losing, it should not be a personal vendetta against either the manager the chairman or the players. Just lately I have been amazed at the negativity and the back biting from so called Stoke supporters who are slating the manager in a derogative manner. OK criticising is fine and promotes healthy debates but not in a way which is offensive and borders on slander. I can only assume that the anti Pulis brigade which have slated him since his arrival were not around in the dark days of the 80s when we were changing managers almost every season. I have been priveliged to be a Stoke supporter all my life, my first game was in 1959, so I guess you can work out that I have seen many comings and goings in this time. Please get behind the team and SUPPORT them through the good and the bad times, Tony Pulis has done wonders for our club, and Peter Coates has put his money where his mouth is, give them both the respect they deserve, and yes criticise them and have your say but PLEASE do not make it into a personal rant. Anti-Pulis is not anti-Stoke.
I'm not a total PHW, however you should understand that those that slate the manager do so because they want what's best for the club and believe that Pulis is holding the club back or doesn't show enough ambition.
Likewise, those that praise Pulis do so because they feel that he's best for the club.
They all want the same thing, just disagree on how to get there.
Then you have the minority of fans who have little to no ambition and would be happy for us to finish 17th each season.

I've been a fan since the early 70's.
I hate the way we play, so I hate Pulis - simple as that.
Some talk about relegation if Pulis goes. I believe we are in danger of relegation if he stays.
We are all entitled to our opinion.

Attack, Attack, Attack Attack Attack is all I have to say in response to the opening post.
There are lots and lots of supporters who have stood on the grass bank at Wigan, the roof top at Macc (to watch us play Chester City) and all manner of other shitty clubs over the years who are deeply concerned by the last 12 months at Stoke City.
In complete reverse of your opening post, YOU ARE NOT REALLY A STOKE FAN if you all you want to do is happy clap your way to mid-table obscurity or worse courtesy of the most mind numbingly boring and negative approach, especially away from home, known to football supporters.

The thing is with Pulis he makes the same mistakes over and over again when people can clearly see better options. He must realise himself but he keeps doing them over and over as if trying to get his head around the fact it doesn't work.

I'm not a fan of this board not because of th negative posts but the lack of togetherness, I've been reading the oatcake for years. If the fans weren't so split it wouldn't be so bad. At the same time everyone SHOULD always voice their opinions as without being public with your opinions and nothing will change. A lot of supporters are only trying to express that they don't think Pulis is the right way forward on here and their support of Stoke is always questioned because they don't agree with the manager, I would be more worried about those willing to accept what they are given than stand up and speak their mind. All the great changes in history have been caused by people standing up and speaking out.

I'll be honest, I don't like the guy or anything he stands for other than his charity work. |

Other managers have had it on here too (Gudjon with the whole 4-4-2 / wing back situation). Pulis has had more because he's been here longer and there are far more people on this site compared to ten years ago.
Some go over the top with the negativity and try and pick fault with everything, others dismiss everything as rosy and seem to think we'll be fine / or relagated if he ever goes.
I'd say the middle ground think he's done a good job in the past and genuinely had something good going in the FA Cup final build up season (scoring goals, attacking play, wingers). Unfortunately that regressed badly last season and too many mistakes were made (messing around with the defence early on, square pegs and round holes, persisting with a forward who was desperately off form). Therefore he's got to turn it around again and now feels almost 'make or break' for him to get it right.

Correct managers do come and go and Pulis (with a very big helping hand from Coates) got us into the PL, fair play to him but we have been putting up with shit football with Pulis in charge for the best part of a decade now. Don't get me wrong the football before that wasn't brilliant but now we are swimming in a different pool, it doesn't have to be like this, we can afford top players and a manager that knows how to play slightly attractive & effective football. The tough & physical approach is fine, but if we could actually play a bit more football that is also effective with it, it would be good, but Pulis doesn't coach football does he, it's all about positioning and shape. |

I think the point is that the main problem is the way in which people express their views and opinions. The mindless insults and belittling of those with opposing views does nothing to advance an argument; all it does is show a lack of respect for each other. Equally some of the tediously repetitive irrational bile aimed at TP does, in my opinion, say more about the writers than the target.  |

Some fans will back the team whatever is happening on the pitch, and that's all fine and dandy. But for me, football is a passionate sport and if my team can and should be doing better I'll give my opinion on how we could improve.
In our fifth year in the Premier League I expect us to take the game to our opponents much more often and I will be very disappointed if I see the white flag go up again at places like OT, SB and the Emirates.

I know very few Stokies that are fully behind Pulis and his methods, but pretty much all the Stokies I do know have been supporting *the club* all their lives as have I.
