I am going to treat myself soon.
So, should I go all out and get an iPad, or are the cheaper (e.g. Google Nexus) kind just as good?

Well I have got the I pad 2 and I think it's brilliant, I would never go back to a pc or a laptop, this does everything and more than I want , great for web sitesj , I books ( and I've downloaded a kindle app) I tunes , great camera, I love it . I can't compare it to other tablets though as I have no expierience of them , for me I pad is brilliant , it's a little pricey I know , but for me it's well worth it

I thought the cam on the Ipad 2 was pretty shit to be honest, but if you only want it for web browsing, messing about with a few games or watching films they are decent, I got rid of mine a little while ago because I just kept needing to do more with it than I could, for me personally it was a complete waste of money, but as long as you know they don't come near a laptop you should be happy with one, definitely better than the cheaper ones, more reliable.

I agree mate its perhaps not for the person who is seriously into the use of computers, it dosent come near a laptop in lots of ways, but for me it's ideal for the oatcake and other web browsing , you tube etc. we have a laptop and a pc in our house but I never use them myself as I find the I pad easier

Another vote for the I Pad, I was reading somewhere that the Google tablet has a problem with the screen, something about the adhesive not bonding it properly, it does have a very good review though, and is a hell of a lot cheaper.

Nexus 7 is very good. No problems with the one I use at work. Compared to some cheap android tablets I've used also at work the Nexus is a lot lot better and faster. If your looking for a 10" in android then Samsung should be a safe bet. Depends on your price bracket. The iPad2 is a safe bet if you have the money

A caution about Ipad and YouTube, you get frustrated very quickly that lots of videos like music wont play because they don't allow it, it's because it's categorised as a mobile device.

Surface could be interesting but Microsoft will probably be having to sell it at a great loss just to sell them. Windows 8 is shite doesn't work well on existing kit but may work on this device. You do also have the rumoured iPad mini but this may have to be at a similar price point to compete.

Depends on which phone you've got, if its an android go with an android tablet and if it's an iPhone go with an iPad.
Ps if it's an iPhone I recommend you get apple tv as well, brilliant for streaming videos and other things straight to your tv instead of watching on a small screen and they all work so well together.

Apple are rumoured to be making a 7-8" tablet to take on the nexus 7 and kindle fire. So basically a big iPod touch

I have an archos Android tab - and the best bit is the 250 gig of memory - shitloads of games, music, films, etc.

If you want to save yersen a few quid try getting a refurbished iPad from the online apple store. I got an iPad 2 16 gb for £259. They come with new casing, screen, battery and charger. The warranty and online support is identical to buying brand new. Dunner get the refurbished ones from currys because they do not replace the chargers!

Depends on how much dollar you want to spend on it. I bought a 16GB Nexus for £208 and am delighted with it. Like the size as well as its easier to handle when on travels etc... but still plenty size enough when loafing about at home. Google Play store is good to use and all the apps under the sun available. I rate ipads as well but for value for money for what I needed it for Nexus wins hands down at £208.

If you're buying a tablet, it has to be an iPad. Everything else is a poor imitation.

We've have got the 3rd Gen iPad and love it! Use it mostly for browsing the web, but we also download the Sun newspaper which is handy. Other great features is the new Sky + App, which allows you use the iPad as a remote to control your Sky HD box. We also use it as a remote for the Apple TV's in the house and is a great way of showing off photos. It was also very handy on holiday, we took it America last month and it was great for FaceTime calls back home.

I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 mainly because I like the slightly smaller (more convenient) screen size.
Very happy with it - great for web browsing and BBC i-player etc. For some books it is better than my kindle although the Kindle is better for newspapers and for battery life.
The lady in my life has an ipad and that is fine as well. But she already had an iphone whereas I have an android so an android tablet made more sense to me.
Great for what it does well - I'd never use it to write war and peace though!
