Excuse my ignorance, but what does an ipad do that a lap top won`t and vica versa. For surfing the web, downloading movies, music the iPads leave laptops standing for performance. However iPads are no good as workstations for word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations as they do not have much storage facility and you conner put Microsoft programmes on them anyway. They have very fast connectivity and are also brilliant for communication via messaging, email, FaceTime etc. they also have decent built in camera/video which can be stored/sent very easily and quickly. You can also watch TV live and I-player etc. Also as Salop says it uses touch screen technology. The biggest downside of the iPad IMO is you cannot use Flashplayer on them which is a bit of a bind sometimes. However do believe that Apple are bringing out their own version for the iPad.

I've had an iPad 3 for a few months now and it is amazing. Checked all the various specs and read reviews to make up my mind and I have not been disappointed.

You can get an app from the AppStore called Iswifter which uses flash and like a normal browser The reason that Apple refuse to use Flash on any of their mobile devices is due to the fact that it kills battery life. Flash will be all but extinct within the next year to two as most developers will transition to HTML5.

I'd got for a second hand iPad2, or even a new one if you can still buy them.
Memory of 32 or 64 gigs.
People may have commented above (not read the thread) about having to pay for things all the time, but you can get movies, music and books for free if you download and convert (films mainly) them.
Personally, I'd go for the iPad just for the screen, image quality and internet browsing capabilities.

It comes completely refurbished with new screen, casing, battery & charger. It also has same warranty as new ones and same online support etc. at the time the iPad 2 was £329-£359, however I paid £259 with free p&p.
