He might have said all the right things but I really do think he's got his head in the clouds. He wants a team that is ... a.) Local b.) In the Premiership c.) Are prepared to bring him in as first choice up front. And I'd guess that he'll want a contract that reflects criteria c. It's not going to happen Michael and is probably why you haven't got a club at the moment .... He did say it wasn't a pre requisite. He was complaining more about playing 15 minutes then not playing for 4 weeks, then playing 90 mins out of the blue. He seems to want to play regularly, he didn't place as much emphasis on 'starting' as you seem to think in my opinion. Edit: In fact watching it back now he actually says he wouldn't expect it in his contract (to be guaranteed starts)

I'd offer him an ultimatum - now or never. Give a deadline for the end of the week. He certainly isn't the future, and there are better players out there. Its whether the risk of another unproven player is worth it, but Owen is a risk himself (unless he signs on the suggested 'pay as you play').
We missed out on Mirallas, I think he'll be a machine at Everton - playing as a Centre forward or a Winger...

Michael Owen is finished as a Prem player. In fact he was finished when he was at Newcastle. That'd be why the greatest manager in the history of British football signed him.

"it's a two way thing ,the club have got to want me and it's a case of going to the best club avaiable "
I suppose it's his interpretation of the best team/club and who has actually made an approach , trying to go through the clubs I struggle to see a club bigger / better than us that would take the risk !
He doesn't seem mad keen though does he , I guess it's a case of him waiting and seeing if anything else materialises !
I think he'll be a lucky boy if it does and good luck to him if so !

"If it's local to me, excellent, I want to play more often, but that's not, you know, written in the contract" He wants to play more often than he was at Man United which was virtually nothing. I don't see how've you drawn the conclusion that he expects to be an automatic starter and having contractual assurances over it too.

He knows he's not going to get contractual assurances from ANYBODY (and I hadn't remotely suggested that he had) he was just checking himself at the time by saying so - when I said 'reflect' c. I was referring to a fixed salary rather than him being on a PAYP. He's not going to be getting a 'good run of games' if he's not starting is he? He not going to 'train then play and train then play' if he's not starting is he? Whatever he's implying, I'm sure we can both agree he certainly doesn't seem to be looking to play the part of an impact sub at Stoke.

I just can't see TP having a choice of starting Walters and Owen in any given match and plumping for Owen.
That being the case, given Crouch's undroppability, just can't see how he could get successive big chunks of minutes, week-on-week, to build any fitness up.

I still think he will go to Everton, after all its local and he is an Everton Fan. What could be better than ending your career at the club you love?
Also, could be nothing but Kammy just tweeted this to Owen
"All our best guests talk 4England @themichaelowen you did really well, if you don't sign 4 ******* then we will get you on each week ha ha"
Everton fits the gap, but like i said could be nothing, but Everton seem the most likely out of Swansea, Chelsea, Reading, Arsenal and Norwich.

Owen was 4/1 against with skybet last week - now 2/5 on to join Stoke.
Mind you, Carroll has dropped from 20/1 to 4/1 to join us so probably not the best indicator!!!

I really don't want Owen here. He's hanging around for a decent offer because he wants the massive wage so he can carry on maintaining his horses, he hasn't signed for us yet because he thinks he's above us. If we did actually sign him it'd be as a starter so that would mean an attack that hasn't got much pace anyway getting even slower and having a combined age of 63. I'd rather us take a chance on someone younger, give Jerome more game time or end our interest and sign someone completely different and perhaps even from abroad . After this many seasons we should be looking to build a squad now, not filling it full of players who Pulis has always wanted just because he can.

Several big articles on him, this week-end, which confirmed my feelings that we don't need a player for whom football is only of secondary interest.
However, as with some of you above, I was extremely impressed with his attitude and comments, this morning. He said that he intended to stay in the game, after retirement as a player and that he had no ambition whatsoever of increasing his ambition in racing. Part of his interest is in seeing his wife (dressage competitor) and young children enjoy the sport.
To me, living local, for a footballer, does not mean living within ten miles of the club. As his stables are in Shropshire (Malpas) work in the Potteries would be no distance at all.
I wouldn't look at him, unless he agreed to a pay as you play contract, which is what he had at OT. And unfortunately, no-one asked if he would consider being a big fish in a relatively little pool.

Don't see why he doesnt just suck it up and move to a Championship club, he could get regular footbal l in that league and definitely play for one of the promotion contenders and be back in the prem with a team and fans that love him within a year !

The 10 year old boy inside of me who used to get up to watch Michael Owen Soccer Skills religiously every Saturday morning and who used to insist on his good old mother getting 'Owen 10' printed on the back of all his England shirts would absolutely love Michael Owen to sign for Stoke City. It would be a dream come true.
The 22 year old struggles to see how Michael Owen could fit into a Tony Pulis 4-4-1-1 formation and the only benefit of his signature would be a 20 min cameo appearance in an attempt to 'nick a goal' in any fixture we are losing. This, of course, does not fit with Michael Owen's own personal hopes and expectations for the upcoming season and here lies the stalemate IMHO.
