At long last he is finally living up to his plaudits tributes as our 'best player' in these championships.
He seems to be relishing the chance (with Lampard out of the side) to show how he can provide the 'killer pass' ...
He has been by far our best player so far , and Roy Hodgson seems to be getting the very best out of him.
9/10 for Mr Gerrard so far.

Seems to be playing slightly deeper this tournament, and it's working out better for the team. Combining well with Parker too. Very happy with Gerard so far.

Looking better because he's holding his position instead of being billy big bollox and trying to be superman. A certain other manager would have told him play his natural game and he'd go surging forward and leave gaps.

I think he's playing well and I'm happy with him and Parker so far but I just don't think he's doing anything extraordinary and, France apart (where THEY ran the midfield) we haven't played anyone that's better than average. They are doing fine and I have no complaints about them but, as has been true for many years(IMO), we heap praise on mediocrity. They are both doing well but (IMO) will be unable to cope with the better players they will now come up against. I hope I'm wrong.

I think he's doing better because he's not trying anything spectacular, which weould be seen as mediocrity. He's just doing his job. Consistent and steady and reliable. In that position exactly what we need.

In that position exactly what we need. No, I agree Joe and I'm more than happy with him and Parker so far. I just don't think there's anything particularly difficult about what he's doing and we (IMO) go overboard with some of the comments about how BRILLIANT he was. We've squeeked past Sweden and Ukraine and they've done a good solid job. Against France (who are better than the other two) France dominated the midfield. I give them all due credit for winning the group and I hope we improve and go further, but we do tend to go overboard at times. I guess it stems from all the bitter disappointments. Perhaps I should just enjoy it while it lasts.

He`s done well so far alongside Parker, but i`d like to see a third man in the middle of the park against Italy.

He's done well by the abysmal standards he's set for himself in tournaments throughout his career.
Maybe it's because his central midfield partner has actually got a brain to compensate for his total lack of footballing intelligence? His good moments in the past have come when he's had Hamann, Alonso and Mascherano covering his arse.

Like him or hate him, you have to agree that Gerrard put in a real skipper's performance last night, was everywhere on the pitch and set up Rooney's goal.
Finally a skipper we can pretty much believe in after Beckham, do people share the same view?

Totally out of position and at fault for the France goal, spent most of the match against Sweden on walkabout.
He had to be moved by Hodgson so that Cole could get some help from Parker as he got none from Gerrard and Young.
A shit cross that took two deflections before the keeper fluffed it up for Rooney and Gerrard gets credited with an assist.
England were poor, but Woy could well turn out to be the luckiest manager we've had.
Come on England.

Gerrard was oine of the few to emerge from the 2010 calamity with credit. Yes he's led well so far. I'm not that fussed about him covering every inch of grass. More hoping he plays his role properly without trying to be captain big bollox aand making mistakes and getting caught out

But then Woy might have told him he can wander where the fuck he likes.

he is proving to be by far our best player this tournament.
i said this after the sweden game too, especially after that cross.
set up 3 goals in 3 games, yesterdays was lucky, but he skinned his man and put a cross in from which we scored.
against italy him and parker will need rooney dropping very deep to assist in the middle.
young needs to be dropped immediately, he's been awful. start walcott instead, he can't play football, but he can run very fast.

Like him or hate him (And I am not sure what there is to hate about the guy tbh.Seems much less of a dickhead as other superstars), he has been our star performer so far. He was by some distance MoM las night and has led by example. Of all the so called 'golden generation' Gerrard has been one of the few world class players. He has misfired at International level but then so has the team. At club level he has been superman West Ham cup final and Istanbul to name but 2.

I've been more impressed by Parker.
For me, Parker has been our best player.
breaks play down, last ditch tackles, throwing everything at the ball, reading the game/play
for me Parker has been the stand-out player for England.

Nah Parker is shit. He's not doing anything that Henderson couldn't.
You can't replace Gerrard, Cole, Hart. You wouldn't miss Parker. Simple.

He's making things happen which is all you ask for from your creative players.
Just hope he has enough left in the tank.
Starting to look very tired.

A shit cross that took two deflections before the keeper fluffed it up for Rooney and Gerrard gets credited with an assist. It was a great cross, whipped in at the near post with pace is always going to cause problems. Maybe got a bit lucky but when you put a ball in the box like that it's hard to defend which is why it caused them problems. Just out of curiosity - Were his other two assists shit?

A low cross whipped in to the far post, that must be where crouchie has been going wrong. Or do you mean a yard out and sitting up perfectly with nobody to beat?

Who mentioned the far post?
It went through to the far post because crosses like that are hard to defend and as FG pointed out defenders hate them. Keepers are always going to struggle if it takes a nick on the way through and thankfully that's what happened.

It was a superb cross.
Tell me, how do you defend a cross like that?

It wasn't a cross to the far post at all. It only got to the far post because of dodgy defending and keeping. Which is exactly what a cross like that does. Defenders facing their goal, keeper unsure whether to commit and strikers simply getting any part of their anatomy on the ball to score.
