Is Owen really a big time Charlie? He seems pretty level headed and grounded to me. Or is it just an additional snipe at a player you don't rate? Won't even consider going to the Championship. Has publicly stated in the past that he'd rather sit on the bench at a big club than play every week for a smaller one.

It'd prove the numpties on here the support Mr Clueless no sweet F.A about football saying give him one more season etc etc, when really now is the perfect time to part with him as a load are out of contract. And after all iss done the sun would still come up the next day, but Pulis would be gone. Stoke City's No.1 fan here everyone! You'd see the club lose ten of millions and have little scope of making an immediate return to the PL; just so you could say 'I told you so!' Sort your life out. How do you work that out? The club would only have themselves to blame for holding onto a tactically inept manager. I'm all for someone else to push us on not be loyal to a manager just because he got us promoted 4 year ago

There isn't a single manager i can think of who'd be able to grind out 40 points or more playing like we have this season. It's almost an accomplishment! I dislike TP as much as the next bloke but to say if we go down to get rid is about as suicidal an act this club could make. I don't agree, yogi

Nah not for me, I know we could do better, those that acomplish most are never satisfied, Pulis is satisfied just to be here.

TP is just milking the gravy train playing boring percentage football with not a care in the world what the fans think so he can enjoy his cushy retirement in the sandbanks and set his family up for life.

The gift of millions each season is coming to an end and we'll have to be far more frugal than ever before. I do think when Tone thinks he's skint he'll do a better job in the transfer window and we'll lose some of the hanger-onners too...how is that a bad thing? I think that's why people (although disappointed by the season overall) are prepared to sound Tone out and see what he does next. Pretty fair really after 4 years in the prem, i'd say

That s the thing though and it backs my theories up about Pulis, everybody knows the Premiership multi millions is coming to an end yet he is more interested in the first 11 that he has allready spent a generous amount of cash on and is moaning about £6Million going into the clubs future.
If that doesn't have the alarm bells ringing I don't know what will.

That's the beauty of having a fan who owns our club though yogi, he probably knows more about this club than any single one of us from performance to back room business. I trust Coates and i think he knows exactly the vision for this clubs future and i suspect that's partly why he's publicly declaring he's letting the apron strings loose with Tone to accomodate the future of the academy. We can't really lambast Pulis until he makes a fuck up of life without the pocket money guaranteed.....it'll be an interesting summer and first half of the season, i reckon...have a little faith

I don't consider that to be a 'big-time Charlie' quote.....just an fair appraisal of how he sees himself.......additionally, he's honest enough to realise that he couldn't start every week anyway.....he'd be a class impact player for us IMO

Don't see how having Owen on a pay as you play deal would be an issue???? good name still in football will get a headline if he signed, we knock Woodgate but was played at right back, never did that bad when he played centrally. If our medical stuff is really rated cant see an issue, i remember the season for newcastle where he had heaps of injuries but scored a decent amount of goals, scores goals all types of ways, Kevin Phillips type role off the bench

Everyone knows who he is. On a pay as you play or player/coach type deal it could be good for us. Just got back from Portugal (and I suppose it's the same at least europe-wide), but the 'Tissot' watches advertising boards show Michael Owen holding a football.... Which shows that he is still recognisable, even though he's barely played the past few years.

Mama and Walters would love it there! Plenty of green space to roam in and the stables look very well appointed. I think Pulis will want Mama putting out to stud now though. Just need to find a suitable mare.

Owen’s heart isn’t in it anymore.
He’s been more than happy sitting around at Man Utd, picking up a wage and contributing next to nothing for a good while. He’s never come out with the usual sound bytes of a player keen to impress or play more often, “I’m eager to play more”, “I’m working hard on the training ground, trying to earn a chance”, “I want to be playing more, I’ll look elsewhere if I don’t get more opportunities” etc etc.
In fact, if anything his comments in the past have shown he is more than happy to sit around and be a part of a “big club” instead of playing week in, week out at a smaller club. He’s already come out with a comment “I want to keep playing for another year or 2, but not in the Championship, I wouldn’t be interested in that” (paraphrasing, but pretty much the tone of his message).
Hardly the signs of a guy “up for the fight” or motivated to carry on playing, giving 100% week in, week out.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him hold out for another big club to come in for him on a free (Spurs??) so that he can be a bit-part player for a coupe of more years whilst he picks up a fat wage packet and he can continue enjoying his golf and horse racing.
Would he be a big coup for us in terms of raising the profile? Absolutely.
Would he be a good addition for us? Would he play week in, week out? Would he be a success for us? Would his heart be in it? Would he suit our system (i.e we need more pace and he’s lost all his)? – the answer to all these is no.
If he was available on some kind of pay as you play deal I could see the merits in it but there’s absolutely no chance he’d go for that.
We need to be targeting younger players, he isn't what we need to address our current problems and to take us forward, onto the next level.

probably been said already but I think he could equate to being only a slightly better version of the Eidur Gudjohnsen signing i.e. an almost complete waste of time and money !! Alot like Woodgate ( and I gotta say, unlike the above poster, I thought he looked pretty bad wherever he played last season ).
I say keep the squad place free for someone younger and more hungry !!

Can't wait to see where a world class finisher in Michael Owen plays in a Stoke side under Tony Pulis, especially when he can't et in ahead of Walters.
Comedy gold.

Don't think Owen has ever been accused of being overweight, so I don't think we can equate him with Gudjonsen. I have my doubts , but just because he isn't bleating to the press about not playing, I don't think proves anything, he doesn't seem to the sort of player who is after lots of publicity. A pay as you play deal would be fine.

I think every post now features yogiarse slagging Pulis. I'll give him one thing, he's consistent. It's also pretty impressive that one man can spout so much shit.
