Please just get him on, whatever's gone on forget it and get him on the pitch. It's painful watching a mediocre full back playing right wing whilst a genuinely talented winger is on the bench. Bizarre!!

Agree wholeheartedly. Watching Shotton, the one word that springs to mind is "labouring".

If pennant had started we'd have won the match simple as that x

Looks like reports of a Christmas truce may have been premature then.
No other word but bonkers to have him twiddling his thumbs on the bench if we're ultimately prepared to swallow pride when push comes to shove - as we have done against Besiktas, Wolves and now tonight, when there's a game there to be won and a genuine difference-maker needed.

When Pennant is fit he needs to play!

I suspect TP plays Shotton there because he doesn't fully trust Woodgate to perform his defensive duties on that flank and uses Ryan there as a bit of an insurance policy.

What's most annoying is the manager recognised it was stupid at Wolves and changed it. He then repeats the mistake at home. Inexplicable!

I really hope they've had a fall-out, if the alternative is the entire right-hand side of the team being built around protecting a hideously out-of-position Woodgate. That's far too bonkers to process. If he has a clause in his contract requiring him to play if fit, what would be the consequences of breaking it?

I trust TP to do the best for the club, and if JP isn't pulling his weight then he'll be shown the door.
A mighty shame, given the lads talent.

Absolutely maddening to see our most talented ball player (fuller aside) reduced to the role of impact sub.Is it due to TP's obssession with 'keeping it tight' for the first 60 minutes of a game or their alleged bust-up?.

Not picking JP from the start cost us 2 points today. Much that I love TP todays selection was ludicrous.

I'd say you're close there but knowing Tone he would have gone with Whitehead or Delap instead of a kiddie. Maybe he's coming around to the fact the younguns can be effective and work within his plans, hope for Marshall yet

woodgate did a good job against villa though. best game hes had at RB by far imo. pennant should have played from the start, but I would play woody before shotton at RB.

"Teaching him a lesson" by leaving him on the bench is seriously hindering our chances on the pitch. I hope TP knows what he is doing.

And that makes them fools does it? Our form prior to the Blackburn game was appalling. Our December fixtures were worrying. That we have come through them as well as we have done is great, but anyone not worried about what lay ahead in the future after those Bolton and QPR defeats had their heads in the sand.
