Why is it English players are technically shite ? As soon as Lampard came on he started passing to the opposition. Parker only passed sideways or backwards....he must be the new Ray Wilkins. Montenegro looked far more comfortable with the ball than us,2nd half anyway.

Find me one England fan who genuinely believes we'll win the Euros. We won't win it. Everyone knows that.
But the reactions from some people on here are incredible! We've qualified tonight against a plucky team (away from home), who are well and truly punching above their weight and had everything to gain and nothing to lose.
We weren't brilliant 2nd half, that's no secret. But in the 1st, we scored twice and made it pretty easy for ourselves (bar a bit of a flukey deflection for their goal and only real chance at goal).
This national hate really grinds on me and strikes me as quite "bandwagon-y".

We all know that, shame the arse kissing pundits and commentators don't know it. We are second rate and have been for a very long time, Capello is just another manager in a long list of failures. We don't have that typical English mentality anymore where we fight and scrap for everything, we now have players who play tippy tappy football that gives us nowt but frustrating performances.

doesn't matter what manager we have , Capello, Redknapp, whoever does the job is saddled with a bunch of over rated players who actually believe their own press. Do we actually have any real "world class" players? How many of this squad would get into the Spanish squad for instance? No one would love us to win something more than me, but I fear we've still got a hell of a long wait before we repeat 66 and all that.

That's kinda why I said we won't win it. ;D But it's just the hateful bile that some people spew after we've just done a job and qualified (on the whole, quite comfortably!). It strikes me as a little sad though, that in this country, the people hoping England fail and get knocked out as soon as possible outweighs the people who think England will win it. I'm all for realism (I like to think of myself as a realist), but some people (especially on here) are just being negative for the sake of it.

I don't really care if England win it or not to be honest. They have never bothered me and I admit, I chortle and guffaw at many in this country who moan about "not singing the (utter horesh*t of a ) national anthem" or "don't play with passion" etc.
Stoke bother me.
But I see my moaning as trying to stop people from being suicidal in 12 months time as we once again gloriously fail.

No we can't afford to pay for it
The first half of that was a true game, we made them look what they are complete amateurs.
The second half was fixed 'pure and simple.
All the shit in the press will be I'm sorry I was upset , my mind was on my daddy cus hes even uglier than me and my mum should have gone to spec savers. Then John Terry will apologies to the nation for being at fault for the first goal then promise us it will all be different at the finals.
Well it won't we've heard it all before and seen it all before got the T shirt and wished we'd saved our money.
Gascoign, Beckham now Rooney pre Madonnas who get themselves sent off whenever we even have the slightest chance of winning anything.
Going to trace my Viking family history and support Norway ;D

Nobody wants England to fail, what we want is for someone to stand up and say we are not as good as we think we are, but do we get that, no we get players on sickening salaries telling us they are the best in the world when they're clearly not.

Nobody wants England to fail, what we want is for someone to stand up and say we are not as good as we think we are, but do we get that, no we get players on sickening salaries telling us they are the best in the world when they're clearly not. Perhaps I was generalizing somewhat, apologies if I categorized people wrongly and therefore gave the wrong impression. But I'm not afraid to admit that I'll support England (in any sport I follow really) to a similar extent that I'll support Stoke, you can thank my family for that.. ;D . The media do play a huuuuumongous part in raising the hopes of the public however, and people get angry/upset when we inevitably fail to play up to standards in the competitions and big games. People need to face up and not buy into how the media portray us (England and Stoke for that matter) and make their own opinions. Furthermore, I think it's only fair that people do the same for the players, and not hate them for their shady shenanigans broadcast in the media and again, make their own minds up on their footballing ability and not what we're told to believe. It can be a little hypocritical in that respect. A scenario that would be interesting within the Stoke fanbase would be if our very on Jermaine Pennant got called up. A player who is no doubt a high earner at stoke with a shady past playing with a bunch of "Over paid wankers who should be locked up for punching DJs" or whatever. Will people paint them all with the same brush or make a rather double-standard exception because he's one of ours? I mentioned in my past posts, I see myself as a realist. I'll make my own mind up on the ability of the England players and how I believe we'll fare in the competitions. We won't win it. We might come close but we've realistically got no chance. I'd just hope other people would create their own opinion rather than jumping on the previously mentioned bandwagon.

good point re Pennant.
I'll watch the game, as I did tonight, hope he does well, but not really give a f*** what the score is and then laugh at JCL's and know-nowts smashing bus shelters up after they've had 2 pints of Stella top, on the walk home

South Africa 2010 was a watershed for me with the national side. i will never, ever be deluded enough to think we have a chance of winning a major tournament, and I would encourage any other sane person, even the players, to do the same.
In 2012 we should just be grateful to be there and enjoy the football, if we do well then great, if not, who really gives a shit???

Thing is we all kn ow England won't win it. It's foolish to even entertain the notion. BUT when we get knocked out the same people who know we won't win it will start saying how shit we are. They knew we were shit so why do they go mad when we don't win it. That whole mentality doesn't help.
The nature of English football means that winning a tournament isn't going to happen. People pick a few players names and blame them, or blame the manager or blame the wages. Those things are irrelevant. The whole collective way of English football is such that we are a mediocre international team.
An entire culture chanage can happen...Spain have proven it. But I question if the English game...and this includes us the fans...has the will to do so. The refusal to embrace new methods is our own sword we fall on.

Agree with some really good points by Mint Berry Barks & Mickstupp. South Africa was a watershed. It's led to a lot of bad feeling towards the national team.
It's also put to an end forever the media obsession with building up the team as favourites everytime England qualify for a competition. We've all finally recognised that we're not that good.
But I still believe we've got a fighters chance of winning either the Euros or even the World Cup. Not because we're the best team in the world, but because they're cup competitions.
Are Stoke the best team in the land? Erm no. But if we'd not had the injuries at the end of last season, and then had a bit of luck against the Mancs, it's not inconceivable we could have won the most coveted domestic cup competition in the world.
England have that same chance. If we ever do win one of these cups I'll be doing my nut and getting very, very pissed.
It's a shame so many people's dislike of the current crop of players (which I largely agree with), means they can't feel the same way.

I thought the moronbic expectations would cease when we didn't reach 2008. Instead we got the same old build up. Some people confuse wanting to win and expecting to win.
