Would prefer royal blue socks or perhaps White shorts, but it's a nice strip
England have traditionally flitted between blue and red for the away strip - remember Italia 90 and the classic blue top!

Why do we not have the red shirt world cup winning strip.

Post by Robo10 on Sept 2, 2011 20:06:06 GMT
Dunno? We wore it more than the red one from memory (was a long time ago!) Think we had blue in 1970 and 82 Deffo red in 86 I thought blue was 88 euros and 90 wc That grey effort in 96 Red in 98, 00 (really nice top, still got mine!) And 02, 04, 06, 08 - not really been that lucky since 66 It's an away strip anyway, as long as the home strip stays White I'm not fussed Like the design!

It's smart because it's a polo shirt, not a football top.

I don't like it. Call me old fashioned but I much prefer the red shirts. The shirt design reminds me of a cheap polo shirt from sports soccer

Standard junior school pe kit I've been wondering what it reminded me of. Looks shocking to me, training kit at best, the collar hasn't even got any roll to it.

I really like it. Looks simple and tidy. Better than the complicated shite they've put out in recent seasons. Even our home top this year is a poor effort IMO.

Most England kits are terrible and this one is no exception. How do Umbro keep getting the gig? Truly a mystery of Scooby Doo like proportions

Generaly speaking when making a football kit, the designers start by thinking about what will make the team stand out to each other across a green pitch with a crowd as a back-drop. They go on to consider things like: will the collar be comfortable; will the cut allow good movement without providing too match material for the opposition to grab hold of; how the shape and drape will allow air to flow through the garment, aiding breathability and keeping the wearer cool; etc.
Then the marketing guy pops round the door and says "Throw that shit away, it's got to look good with a pair of jeans in a bar in Torremolinos".
