Special praise for Kenwyne Jones today. Worked his socks off, won countless headers (including the one for the penalty). Upfront on his own today, kept there centre halves busy all game when feeding off hit and hopes.
As soon as a decent ball is delivered into the box for him to attack, he scores. Shame we don't provide the quality often enough. Shame about the miss from him 5 mins earlier though.
He has worked hard so far this season. I was there on Thursday where people just love to moan at him, (pathetic from so called stoke fans). Today was a reward for all his hard work.
Hopefully we can get him a strike partner, someone abit clever and with an eye for goal.
Super Kenwyne Jones!!!

Agreed!
He scares the shit out of defenders.
There was one point where he controlled the ball in their area, got it to his feet and had 3 defenders around him shitting themselves not knowing what to do.
He is a very important player, and as much as I like Walters it is kenwyne that is the undroppable one, we need a flair player/goalscorer next to Kenwyne.

This is the same player that has been labelled as a 'Fucking useless lazy fucker' by some on this board after the last few matches.
It's a good job it was 'Golden Boy' who missed the penalty and not Kenwyne, never mind that one on one against a non keeper in Europe otherwise there would be a fucking lynch squad out for him.
Well done Kenwyne, you have been playing well with hardly any support son, keep it up.

I too think he's been very good for the last few games and have struggled with some of the stick he's had.
I can't remember him losing much in the air against Chelsea and today I thought his link up play on the deck was very good and intelligent at times. His header was a cracker.

Yep, fair play to Kenwyne he has done very well.
We all knew he would though, what with the hot weather we are having.....

A decent thread to which I concur. I also note a reference to our 'golden boy' which neatly ends the arguments about whether Jon Walters is black or white
the answer = he's golden actually

KJ needs decent service and he is good enough for his share of goals, just chasing aimless balls must be a thankless task sometimes , took goal well, especially after missing chance earlier, sign of a good striker

Keep it up Kenwyne - excellent second half today.
Some of the comments on the match day thread about Kenwyne Jones, Walters, Wilson, Whitehead, Whelan and Pulis reflect far worse on the idiots that wrote them than they do on the players targeted for the abuse.

Agreed about his general contribution but he does need to improve his finishing on the deck. Someone else has alluded to it before but there was a point in the 2nd half where he has the ball just inside the area with three defenders around him. He's crying out for someone to lay it back to and Whelan and Deano go missing.
THAT is the major issue. He needs decent players (central midfielder and a pacey striker) to feed off him and his knockdowns. Without them, he looks very isolated and ineffective. Hopefully we'll see these players bought into the club this week, because KJ has the potential to be a massively influential player.

Rarely gets the reward his work rate earns. He keeps on going. Perhaps he'd be a lot more productive, goals wise, with the right man alongside him. That's not a criticism of Walters, who is top draw, but Jones and Walters don't clique up front. They play to far apart. imho.

Agree with the theme of this Thread. Kenwynne put himself about today, and like our Rik, his demeanour will quite often attract crticism. Once we get BOTH our Wingers fit and firing, and reinforcements arrive, which they will, then we'll see the best of Kenwnne.

I thought Kenwyne was easily MOM today - he put in an excellent performance. I do wonder, if his best position (for us) isn't ultimately going to end up playing in the 'hole'. I know it didn't work first time around but maybe it wasn't really ever given a proper shot. Just how many (15?) headers did he win today but there's was nobody to take advantage of his flick on? A fully fit Ricardo or somebody (like) Darren Bent would have thrived on that sort of service but we've got absolutely nobody at the club remotely in that mould ... maybe we could sign Peter Crouch instead!

I moaned about him in the first half cuz he was lazy and looked tired but the second half he improved ten fold! He was the spearhead of our attack and worked ARD!! Took his goal really well! Well done Kenny!!!

What concerned me was on the pictures i saw he was 1st down the tunnel at the end of the game when surely he should over at the Stoke fans thanking them for their support or maybe i'm reading too much into it.

Finally some praise for him, thought he was emense today and again with absolutely no support. Put a proper striker up top with him and allow Walters to go wide if our wingers are off the we have some attacking threat instead of Matty on the right with the inept Pugh on the left.

when he gets flat balls played into him, it is a lot easier from him to flick on or control, but he isnt the tallest player and many defenders are a little bit taller than him meaning when looped balls come over he gets out jumped a bit and then gets stick for it..... just needs to finish with his feet a bit more, saying that tho doesnt hardly get the ball at his feet, well played kenwyne lad

I've not quite understood the criticism KJ has attracted this season.
He is never going to be Andy Cooke run around like a maniac cos he loves the shirt type but he is effective and puts in a decent shift for me.

Sat in a pub watching the game and for 93 minutes he was lazy, useless, the worst player on the pitch and after he had scored he was a star and had an amazing game, I think that sums up how fickle most Stoke fans are. My opinion is if he gets decent service he will score goals, it's pretty simple.

He's brilliant in that position from where he scored today. Float the ball in at a certain height, and the defender may as well not be there.
