Anyone remember the old market 'did it used to be where weatherspoons is now or close by there?'.... Remember always having a sandwich and a drink on a Saturday afternoon in one of those square rooms..... There were two indoor markets tazi. One where, as you say, where Weatherspoons is. This was fish/meat & fruit/veg. The other one was a two storey market where Potteries Centre is now. This sold usual market merchhadise and I think the basement of the Potteries Centre was the original basement of the old market. More useless information is that Percy St used to be the main bus terminal in Hanley before the bus station was built. cheers mate, now remember the one by weatherspoons, a real good market....

Can anyone remember that name of the TV shop about halfway down piccadilly on the right?....
Used to haggle them right down in price and got some great bargains/deals.
Once brought a Perdio Video Recorder for the lads room and he's had it about 20 years now and it's still going strong....

Rumbelows Tandy Dixons Electronics Boutique Littlewoods Another World Discs & Discs Stolen from Ivor
There was also a couple of second hand videogame shops, one across from the old Tesco and one across from the Potteries centre up from Britannia.

I very much doubt anyone will remember this one - There was a shop up from where the church next to the potteries centre is, sold kitchens and various other bits including a vast array of firegrates, can't for the life of me remember what it's called and I actually worked there! It was only for a month while I waited for a date to join the RN tho' and it was a long time ago

Burgeses (Sp?).
I've yet to have a sausage roll that could match theirs. Basted with egg before baking - they were a yellowy colour.

I bought my first really good Hi Fi from there - a Sony with real F off speakers. They never did proper credit checks, they just wanted to see a valid credit card. Only Barclaycard and Access around back then as I remember.

Great thread......brings back SO many memories......I remember The Place (disco) and Buck's Jewellers (I dated Caroline Buck once)......can't recall where I used to get my Ben Sherman shirts from...... Please note - I emigrated to Oz in 1971 so my memories are somewhat hazy!! Bought my late wife's engagement and wedding ring there. Closed quite recently I think. After buying the engagement ring we went in the Tontine for a session.

Bloody hell green shield stamp shop - good call, I thought I was old, glad to see there are some more crinklies here too. Sherwins is the shop I always remember, downstairs where the record section was, listening to Motown on the headphones, the smell of vinyl, spent many a happy Sat'dy in there . Festival Time - San Remo Strings sublime...... HL Did Argos take over the Green Shield Stamp shop?
