what about zadar to split? i know you say roads are busy, but surely there are quieter times to travel at? not really bothered with a few hours on a coach so long as i've got a book and my ipod

My mate rang me earlier, he had an email today stating his flight from Gatwick did not go through yesterday due to problems with their servers. So now he is having to rebook his flight and is now flying to Zadar, as Split is too expensive.

Only on borders and local roads.. but since you'll rent the car already here or use a bus.. no probs. Zadar - Split is 2 (maximum) hour drive. Its certainly better option. Zadar is also neat place to check out.. if you guys are staying for few days and are on budget travel it wouldn't be bad option to fly to Zadar and check for private accomodation in Zadar is surrounding smaller places. You can easilly get to Split from the bus station... there's tons of daily lines.

Zadar looks a good option from Stanstead - £90 return flight on Ryanair then bus from Zadar to Split (about 2 hours and £15 each way).

I hear the flight lands in at Zadar at 8:30pm or something, anyway you can book a slow train to Split which travels takes all night, but you can book a carriage with a bed. Maybe a good option for supporters travelling on Zadar flight.

Can you book a bus from zadar to split now, or is it a case of just getting on one when you are there?

a car for 3 days from Zadar to Split is £170 with Auto Europe. If there's 4 of you that's a decent option as you stop where you want.
Get one with a CD/Ipod dock, take your choons, and drive down one of the most picturesque routes in Europe.
Wish I was going as that would be supporting heaven.

Yeah wanted to book it at that price last night but been waiting on somebody to make a decision, just found out that they're not going, went to book it and the price has gone through the roof! Batfink are you getting that price on the ryanair site or somewhere else ... it's definitely £418.00 on their site fella?

About the Bus tickets you buy them when you reach the city,no need for booking.
And just to let you know our trains are very ooold and don't expect the fast ones like you have in the UK.

We are doing Stansted to Zadar with Ryanair (got the flight at £183) staying in a hostel in Zadar then get the bus to Split early thursday morning.
Anyone now how much the bus will be for a return from Zadar to Split? and how often they run? renting a car seems a bit pricey

Its not trains that are old.. its shitty terrain and lack of fast areas. At best they go 60-70kmh in mountains there. Forget about the train guys.. full of fat Germans and slow. Bus is better option.

It will take long, long time. Hell of a scenic route tho..

Currently mooting a flight to Zadar then the bus to Split. Flying out early Thursday, land and jump on a bus, stay in a hostel in Split for the night then head home via Zadar on the Friday.
Also still considering going with the official travel or Sport Ops, depending on their prices.

Is anyone traveling on their own to this game?
None of my mates can either afford or get the time off work but I really want to go, Croatia is somewhere I have always wanted to go too.
I am waiting for the official packages at the moment but would prefer to go and make a few days of it, is Split a good place for a lone traveler?
I think booking a flight/hotel deal with someone like Expedia seems a good option, a few of them are cheaper than some people have been offered for flights alone.
