Driving might be long but be sure that you'll drive tough most scenic route you'll ever witness. From Swiss, Austrian and Slovenian Alps to Dinaric Alps in Croatia (Lika, Zagora etc). If you are really up for it imo its worth it. World class scenery, routes and roads. However road tolls in those 4 countries might bankrupt you. Just to get form Cro border to Split you'd need nice bunch of paper europeans But its worth it..

Looked at the train option from London to Split! 38 hours for the complete journey in one go (3 changes)! To break it up with a night in Vennice, you would have to leave Vennice on the Wednesday morning and travel via Zagreb to arrive in Split on Wednesday at 07.15. Didn't look at the return trip, not really a viable option.

Right I'm in there. Did have a hostel on the outskirts so I've cancelled that. Just got to get my cousin over there now to split the cost of the room.
Have you got the 6.10 from Gatwick and 16.10 from Split?

Anyone thought of flying to Trieste...? Long trip down to Split.. especially now when you have up to 1 million vehicle entrances per weekend on our borders.. Count ~7, 8 hours with bus.

I tell you what gents I've been been watching England in most most corners of the globe ie Albania etc etc. There is always a few options to get there on your own for a reasonable price with a bit of imagination, flight, train, car but Split looks like its one on its own and you are just going to have to pay some decent money or probably take the old club day trip!
