Now I'm not one to moan (ahem!) but I can't help feeling underwhelmed by the (proposed) new signings.
Woodgate - great player but NEVER EVER fit. We'll be lucky to get a dozen games.
Cole - camel of the highest order and has injury problems to boot.
Taylor - our squad is full of these pleayers - no impact from the bench. Is he going to play left back? I'd prefer Higgy or Wilson. He ain't gonna dislodge the best English left winger in the league.
Here's hoping for more imaginative signings begfore the end of the window but when you are limited by the pool of players we are looking into and the wages on offer then I'm not optomistic.

I don't see the problem with signing Woodgate, on a pay as you play deal there's virtually no risk involved and he's one of the best defenders in the league when we can keep him fit. I'm quite sure we wont be relying entirely on Woodgate as our cover centre-back and we'll have another centre-back in mind too.
Whatever people say about Carlton Cole, his strike-rate over the last 3 seasons has been basically as good as anything we've got. He got 11 goals last-season, and he got 20 goals in 51 starts in the 2 seasons before that. It's not mind blowing, but it's fairly consistant, and I'm sure he'll suit our system perfectly. A great addition at 4.5 million + extras in my opinion.
I really like Matt Taylor, I think he'd be an absolute steal at the rumoured 1.5 million fee. We really are in desperate need of a cover winger, ideally it would be someone who can operate on both wings but even so he'd still be a very handy player to have. He can cover 3 positions, and he's an excellent dead-ball player.
I'd be really happy if we added Carlton Cole and Matt Taylor too our squad.

I've no problems with Woodgate either.
Cole is shite end of story. He missed from a yard in a crucial game back end of last season. We already have Mama who can do that.
Taylor = journeyman.
Like who? - dunno - I'm not paid to scout for the club and don't know who is available. I only pay £419 a year for a season ticket.

He has been at 3 clubs, playing more than 100 league games for each of them. Not what I would call a journeyman, just hope the rumours of him being "finished" due to glandular fever is way off the mark. In an ideal world, I would prefer someone younger as back up for our wingers, but Matty Taylor is a good player. |

Matty Taylor is a better squad player than diao, soares, tongue etc.. It's pretty clear to everyone that at 1.5m, that is all he is.
Cole scoring record speaks for itself in a shit west ham team, he suits us and will no doubt equal or better his 11 goals last season.
Woodgate is a back up as Faye has gone. If we can fix him up ( a la Fuller) he's a bargain and a quality defender. If he's a flop, we pack his bags and say traa.
We can't be excited by every signing we make, we are not a top 6 team and therefore cannot have a team full of overpriced big named players.
It's also only July the 13th, anyone would think it was august the 30th.

I'll be happier if we can sign a midfielder, in addition to Woodgate and possibly Cole and Taylor. We really need someone who can push forward and link the front two and wingers. Bellamy would be my choice but I'll bet we don't want to afford his wages. Parker will go to another London club. Not sure who that leaves?

I think we will have to judge the Woodgate and Cole signings (assuming the latter happens) on the basis of who else we bring in. If those two and Matty Taylor are as good as it gets then I agree that its hardly awe inspiring and I will be somewhat worried about the reality of our ambition to 'push on'

I do think TP's playing a clever game or at least I hope he is. It looks like he's building the squad numbers up for the start of the season and Europe with the likes of Woodgate, Taylor and Cole. He'll then probably get a couple more squad players and maybe the Greek before going into the last week of August looking to bring in a couple of big names who have been passed over by the big clubs.

I remember a certain 'Journeyman' signing last season who everyone complained about, 'lack of ambition' etc. Turned into one of our best signings and got 12 goals. Just because we aren't chasing names and paying over the odds for wank, like Sunderland, doesn't mean we'll instantly get relegated next season. |

If Cole, Woodgate, and Taylor turn out to be our ONLY signings, it will be bitterly disappointing. However, I, like everyone else on here, know nothing, but expect we WILL bring other players in, it'll just be when TP can get the ones he wants. The jury has to be oust on Cole, Woodgate and Taylor. For all we know, they could end up marvelous signings.
